Intro

I hate authority. People that know me from Guildwiki (username: TheDrifter) or GWWiki know me as someone that regularly challenges authority. Sometimes that resulted in childish arguments and insults. I have long since begun to mellow out. Though my opinions are still the same, I am much more mature in the way in which I present them.

I think the users should have the absolute power on this wiki. The more power that is given to authority figures, the more power is abused. Everyone has less fun, and the wiki becomes less productive. That’s why my proposals deal with putting strong and unbreakable limits on leadership, forcing them to appease the community and run things in the way the users want them to. In light of this, I feel elections should be held frequently and fairly on most of the more involved wiki decisions. More on that later.

Sysops

Sysops should be active and willing to appeal to the community. The job of Sysops should be general wiki maintenance, such as reversing vandalism, warning users, protecting pages, dealing with defective bots and issuing temporary bans. In order to promote user involvement, any of these decisions can be contested. Other admins will be called in to weigh in on the situation. It will be up to these other admins whether or not to reverse any contested actions.

As for permanent bans, Sysops will have the right to issue them. However, when one is issued, a mandatory evaluation will be put forth. Evidence will be put forth, and all users (other Sysops included) will vote on if they think the ban was warranted. If the general user consensus agrees with the ban, a permanent ban will be placed on the user in question. If there is a majority vote against the decision, the user in question will not be banned.

There should be no limit to the number of Sysops on the wiki. Sysops should be elected by the users, and should be elected frequently. Sysops should have short terms, with the ability to be reelected as many times as they would like.

Bureaucrats

Bureaucrats should function much like Sysops with the following differences

• There will be a set and definite number (which will be odd)
• They will have the ability to grant or revoke bot status
• They will have the ability to remove Sysop status (this decision will also have a mandatory evaluation and user vote).
• They will have longer terms then Sysops (but not indefinitely long terms)

Arbitration

Should done by user vote. Only Bureaucrats and Sysops should have the ability to present information. Throughout the process, admins will have the reasonability of seeking out sock-puppet accounts as well as keeping discussion civil.

Policies and guidelines

Should exist to empower users, not explicitly admins. As such mechanisms for appeal and contesting decisions should be provided. Controversial decisions should be made by the users (through vote). The job of the admins should primarily to serve the interests of the users, and policy should reflect that.

Policy should also prohibit uncivil and unfair actions preformed by one user against another. It should favor those that act fairly and calmly above those that lash out and act rude. Policy should promote an environment in which users have no fear of personal attacks or unfair actions taken against them. Such an atmosphere would promote optimum wiki construction and an overall more useful resource.
