Do not be disruptive to the proper functioning of the Guild Wars 2 Wiki. Stop and think about the impact of your actions and attitude towards other users. Help rather than hinder the wiki.

What is considered disruption?

The wiki is governed by commonly understood rules of netiquette and other social spaces. Behaviour considered disruptive in many situations is also considered disruptive here.

Disruptive behaviour here might include, but is not exclusive to;

• Personal attacks - attacking the user rather than their point.
• Vandalism - destroying pages, adding incorrect information, adding rubbish text which reduces the effectiveness of the wiki for users.
• Trolling - deliberate bad faith contributions to talk pages which interfere with editors and wiki discussions.
• Harassment - continued behaviour or conversation towards a user after they've request a stop to it.
• Technical disruption - an attempt to prevent the wiki from functioning through attacking the wiki software and its limitations.

What is finally considered to be disruptive behaviour is determined and enforced by sysop discretion. Any warning or requests to stop from a regular user are also valid and will be taken into account by a sysop when they determine their action.

Consequences of disruption

An editor displaying behaviour considered disruptive may receive warnings about their behaviour. Sysops will ban a user or IP address if necessary to stop the disruption. The length of the ban is at sysop discretion. The length of a ban will increase with any subsequent ban applied for similar behaviour in the future.

Some forms of technical disruption, such as wikipedia:Denial of Service attacks, may cause further legal ramifications.

Appealing a claim of disruption

After receiving a ban for disruptive behaviour a user might appeal their ban directly to the banning sysop, or another sysop via email. A friend might also appeal the case on the wiki, or the community itself might question the actions. A ban maybe removed or reduced by reasonably discussing the situation with those involved. A sysop always has the right to immediately determine if they need act to ease disruption to the wiki. A ban applied to diffuse a situation which is later removed is not necessarily incorrectly applied.

Do not create additional accounts or use dynamic IP addresses to appeal the case on the wiki.

Don't be a dick

The obvious corollary to this policy is that we don't want you to be an asshat when you're here on the wiki. Thinking that you're right doesn't give you licence to throw insults and annoy everyone with your attitude. No one like to listen to a dick, no matter how right they are.

If you find you've been asked or warned to stop being disruptive, to stop being dick on the wiki, seriously consider your motivations for your contributions here.

Are you here to contribute and make the project good? Or is your goal really to find fault, get your views across, or be the one in control? Perhaps secretly inside you even enjoy the thrill of a little confrontation. This may not make you a bad person, but to everyone who is busily trying to build something great, you become an impediment. People get frustrated, rancor ensues, the atmosphere changes, and the whole project suffers. Are you here to give, or to take?

If appropriate, publicly apologize to anyone to whom you may have been a dick. It's okay; this won't make you seem weak. On the contrary, people will take notice of your willingness to cooperate and will almost always meet your efforts with increased respect.
