Template talk:Living world infobox
It should be "Living world infobox", that is all.--Relyk ~ talk < 23:26, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- probably. what would you call the currently named "living story" parameter then? "living world", or something like "storyline" -Chieftain Alex 08:04, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me. —Dr Ishmael 16:58, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Releases, living world, story archive and us[edit]
One of the major complaints about the "living world" last year was how discontinued it felt and how difficult it was to follow the story, and ANet seemed to be trying various approaches with various levels of success on how to tell it to the players: big world-wide events that guided everyone through one-time content at the same time, vague events that simply pointed you roughly to a location with new content, Heralds that would tell players what's happening, special story-driven achievement categories, automatically entered story instances or just plain mail messages, with promises of creating a new system for this very purpose. In The Origins of Madness, they added such a system and they look like they'll be using it from now on: a tracker that looks a bit like the special events but it's based on the character and updates as you progress through the content, a bit like the personal story UI. It's a quest, essentially; it even has an end reward, although delivered via the achievement system. It does a tremendous help in tying the story together. And, naturally, it doesn't only help in-game, but also on the wiki, at least for future reference.
And so I created the pages for the two of those we have so far: The Origins of Madness (living world) and Edge of the Mists (living world), and linked them together in the infobox. I admit I'm not that happy with this as a naming convention, but I couldn't really think of a better way to describe this system: it isn't a sort of event but a personal tracker for the living world storyline. Of course, if you have an idea, feel free to share it or just move the articles.
Now, why do I bother talking about that here, I hear you ask? Well, this system looks like it will stay, and if we want to create some sort of browsable archive for the in-game changing content throughout the releases (dialogues, instances, story and such), this would be a perfect way to link it all together. But whether or not the current naming convention will stay, it might be a good idea to accommodate this infobox to that. Namely, the important parameters for this interlinking are prev and next, which are fine, and then chapter, which currently has a label Living World and links to the articles on the releases. I suggest we make a separate parameter release with a label Release and instead use chapter to link the "subpages" (such as individual instances, like The Origins of Madness: A Moment's Peace or The Dead End: Advanced Warning) to the main article with the living world storyline. I would do it myself, but because these templates are often upkeeped by much more experienced users than I am, I felt safer to ask first; so, any counterarguments? ^_^ 18:14, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
Loading Screen parameter[edit]
Can we add one, as well to the {{Personal story infobox}}? Konig 16:59, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
- as long as you promise not to use the map parameter for such things again, and not leave parameters blank, sure. (for this infobox)
- how many screens is the maximum that we've seen so far? (I can see a page with 2 on). Also, what to name the parameters (
loading screen
,loading screen2
...?), and presumably you'd want this to pickup the first loading screen automatically if its named "<pagename> loading screen.jpg"? - as to the other infobox, that's going to affect many more pages and I'd want somebody else's approval too. -Chieftain Alex 16:06, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- I only used the map parameter because 1) that was done already, 2) there was no parameter for loading screens. :P As to leaving things blank... accident! I swear! >.> <.< And 2 has been the most thus far I think - and only for those which have a "first version" and "repeated version" (be it functioning like dungeons ala Canach's Lair, or oddities like Nightmare Incarnate). PS has up to four though, I think. Konig 16:19, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- I approve adding this to PS infobox. I was just thinking of it the other day, didn't have time to do anything. —Dr Ishmael 16:20, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- I still need a good parameter name, and should there be a default name for the second image too in this case? ("<name>_loading_screen_2"?)
- for the PS infobox, don't most personal story items have their loading screen as the {{mystory}} image? makes me think it would seem kind of redundant?. -Chieftain Alex 16:36, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- | loadingscreen = | loadingscreen2 = ? And yes, I would just slap a 2 at the end for second file names.
- As to the PS loading screen - actually, not entirely. There is a separate loading screen for each individual instance, and the {{mystory}} image is just the last instance image - this is why most Orr PS entries have the same image, because the last (sometimes first too) instance is at Caer Vael, and that shares the same loading screen throughout. Just about all Orr PS's have 2 or 3 loading screens, one being shared across as the Caer Vael loading screen. Konig 16:46, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- I approve adding this to PS infobox. I was just thinking of it the other day, didn't have time to do anything. —Dr Ishmael 16:20, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- The "My story" image is what appears in Hero panel#My story. I don't think it's guaranteed to be the final loading screen, but it would appear to have a very high correlation. —Dr Ishmael 18:49, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
Living Story infobox revamp.[edit]
I made a proposal for changes to {{event infobox}} and was told that that my proposal would be better suited for the {{living world infobox}} infobox. My main goal was to change the functionality of the historical flag to instead of using the {{historical content}} notice box it would use the {{temporary}} infobox. As well as noting special event in a less intrusive matter. I suggested {{event infobox}} as I found they were basically the same. So instead I make my same proposal here. The changes I made to the event infobox will be easily adapted here. I may make a new template for my auto-categorization code so that it could be used in multiple templates. So that you don't have to go over there and read my proposal is as follows:
- As some chapters contain multiple parts for example fame and frost. I added a part parameter to indicate what part in the chapter that event was part of. This is for the use in auto-categorization
- Added a other-release parameter to be used in the auto-categorization.
- Added a seasonal event parameter. This will display if a event is seasonal what special event it is part of. See User:Anzenketh/Sandbox/Page/3 for a example of this.
- Added temporary-image parameter for use in the auto-categorization feature.
- Greatly improved the historical parameter. If the event is part of the living story and flagged as historical. It will use the {{temporary}} template to mark it as such with when it was available. It also marks the event as historical so it does not show up in any systematic queries and auto-categorizations. (Additional verification may be required to ensure that it does do that as that was the main goal of the update. ) See User:Anzenketh/Sandbox/Page/2
However before I go too much into this and ignore any need to change {{event infobox}}. Do non-permanent events that are part of a Living World release need to be using the {{living world infobox}} or the {{event infobox}} Note I am talking about events themselves. - I have decided that this conversation is better suited here Anzenketh (talk) 16:04, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Change "Chapter" to "Episode"[edit]
Since this is only used for Living World missions, and Living World uses Episodes instead of Chapters/Acts like Personal Story/Expansion storylines, will anyone be bothered if I update the "Chapter" to "Episode" text in the code? Does that change affect any categorization? Vahkris (talk) 20:46, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
