Attempting to fight the Shadow of the Dragon:[edit]

I am trying to fight the Shadow of the Dragon in the third part of Point of No Return but failing miserably. What skills are best to use per class and race for this? I am a human Mesmer and for the life of me I just cannot stay standing up long enough to do anything even after reading the walk through and learning why the fires kept being put out.

During The Mystery Cave[edit]

Phase 1: Dragon circles its thorny arena while jungle vine tendrils attack.
Phase 2: The dragon will dig itself under the ground and claw and bite. Various explosive pods will spawn in the arena, exploding if the player gets too close. They also explode after a set amount of time.
Phase 3: The dragon's head will emerge from the center of the arena, flailing about as it is stuck in the divine fire circle.
After one cycle of the phases, the dragon will throw stones from the ceiling. Shadow creatures will also try to destroy lit parts of the divine fire circle.

Can this be done single player? OR do I have to party up with friends to get this done? Is that a possibility? At this point for now I am giving up on story which is a shame because I have no trouble doing Silverwastes with others.

It is absolutely soloable, as is every other LS-related mission. It might be a bit rough until you learn the mechanics and timing, but it can be done, don't give up. —Ventriloquist 20:49, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

This step is bugged as the rate at which the divine fire is sent to us is slower than that at which the devices we must destroy reappear. Once again, GW2 being free-to-play, they haven't tested their stuff thoroughly enough. Using such tricks as stability and quickness help, but in the end the completion of this step is more a matter of luck and patience than of skill. It's a shame. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.227.178.182 (talk).

Firstly, this was released before going F2P. Secondly, what devices we must destroy require divine fire? The bombs? They don't require divine fire at all. Smothering shadows? They appear only once per wall of fire. Thirdly, Braham's bubble is what you need to use, not stability. The mechanics are all there. It was tested. It still works - I did it about a week before HoT. You just didn't realize the mechanics. Before complaining, try to look at the fight as a puzzle to solve. You can't smash your head through a brick wall - you have to take it down one piece or chunk at a time. Konig 01:29, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Smothering Shadows[edit]

May be a bug, but they seem to die instantly to Ranger pets (the invulnerability doesn't seem to work vs. pets?) without having Divine Fire active so I didn't waste my Divine Fire charge, I just sic'd my pet and did the mechanics (helped for the Rock dodging achievement by shortening the fight I remember). How to beat 3rd phase?[edit]

Anyone actually beat this? If so, how about improving the walkthrough? -- Shena'Fu (talk) 04:51, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

All but impossible to solo for an ordinary player. I've never succeeded and I don't personally know anyone who has. --82.39.105.23

Story instance differs a lot from the description[edit]

I just went through this, with a Thief build geared towards burst damage. Absolute mistake. As of now (2021) the instance is much simplified, and mainly requires a build that is fast, quick and mobile. The party doesn't run around, you are on your own within the circle and what counts is speed and dodges. In other words: the description of the figth is highly misleading, to say the least. Ugh[edit]

What a thoroughly unpleasant fight!!! :x Honnaja 12:32, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

Despiccably bad.[edit]

This is just aggravating. There is ZERO fun to be had, and that is what I will remember whenever I DO manage to complete it -- that I was cursing the #$%#%$^&^ sobs who created this and did such a wretchedly bad job of making the timing even vaguely reasonable. I tried it for an hour, dying multiple times, and all I did was get more and more frustrated with it, because the stupid "divine fire" isn't up all the time -- which would be reasonable, even if it moved around a lot -- which means you're running around with absolutely nothing to do for 5, 10 or 15 seconds at a time, constantly looking around, trying to find it. And as soon as you get two fires up, and are trying to light up a third, one of them goes out, so you're back at two #$%^$&$&% fires again. Over and OVER and OVER. Moreover, when the fire IS up, half the time it's right where one of the damage/knock down effects are located, and no, the stability does not last long enough for you to
a -- get the fire
b -- get the stability
c -- light the damned blaze at all FOUR LOCATIONS given how fast everything dissipates.
Again -- THIS IS NOT FUN IN ANY WAY. It is just EXTREMELY AGGRAVATING.
This is the third grind in a row that has been used to end a chapter, each one getting worse and worse.

Living World Season 2 is NOT FUN, it is filled with GRINDs, and that is NOT why anyone likes Guild Wars. I could go play WOW and get all the grinding I want.

Rock Dodger[edit]

No rock effects hit the very edge of the arena including the cross-battlefield line effect. If you can get someone to help you, then you can stand right against the vine wall and easily get this achievement. Even easier if you are not the instance owner. --Vm0d (talk) 16:46, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
