Team mechanic[edit]
You may have heard of this bandit effect that makes players attackable by other players, but those players attacked can't fight back. As far as I can tell from what I've observed and heard devs talking over the years, that's because the boon in changing their team from the "PvE player team" to a team that is neutral to both bandits and players, but the "PvE player team" is set as hostile towards that team. And so players can attack the one with the boon, and the one with the boon can't fight back.
I was thinking on explaining this map team mechanic in the Team page, but when I read what I wrote, it turned out a bit convoluted and hard to read. Probably hard to understand too:
"Team" may also refer to part of the mechanics that determines possible interactions between creatures in a map. Every creature and object within a map belongs to a team. And that team has a stance against each other team that determines the kind of interaction they can have with them:
- Neutral.
- A team set as neutral towards another will not affect them with any of their skills.
- Players will also be unable to revive defeated creatures that are in team towards which their team is neutral (although some AoE revive skills can do so).
- Players will see creatures in a team towards which their team is neutral as having green names.
- Allied
- Hostile:
- A team set as hostile against another will be able to use offensive skills on them, dealing negative effects such as damage, conditions and control.
- Players will usually see creatures in a team towards which their team is hostile as having red names names, but some appear with yellow names.
- Yellow names: When a creature in a team towards which a player's team is set as hostile has no initial aggresion towards the player's team, players will see them as having yellow names. But since they are still in a team towards which the player team is hostile, they will be affected by the player's offensive skills. As soon as a player attacks them, they will gain aggression towards that player and their names will turn red for that player, but not necesarrily towards other players..
These relations are not necessarily reciprocal, and so creatures in team may be able to attack a creatures in team that can't fight back because that other team is set as neutral towards them, or players may be affected by boons used by NPCs that won't take boon from them.
Any ideas to make the the previous text easier to undertand?
The main idea is that each team has a setting for each other team, and that setting is what determines if a member of that team can attack or support that other team, but that setting doesn't go both ways the other team has their own setting. And that this also means that enemies with yellow names are not "neutral", but "non-aggressive enemies". MithTalk 01:30, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
Feedback 2015/09/06[edit]
It would be helpful to clarify in WvW whether team chat will go across maps. For example, can a player in Eternal battlegrounds be heard in the other 3 zones or not?
Update 2017/07/03[edit]
Team chat in WvW does carry across all maps for your server. The map tags are classified as:
- EBG - Eternal Battlegrounds
- BBL - Blue Borderlands
- RBL - Red Borderlands
- GBL - Green Borderlands
Example:
- BBL (player 1): Garri is under attack
- RBL (player 2): we are on our way
- EBG (Player 3): Thanks
- BBL (player 1): Thanks.
