Feedback 2016/11/03[edit]
I tried the recipe for the Giver's Steel Sword, but instead got a Giver's Iron Sword. I think there's something wrong with the recipes. --79.46.121.165 23:49, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
- Are you sure you didn't confuse things with Iron Sword, since there is no way that using a steel sword blade resulted in an iron sword; fault of there being a serious bug. -Darqam (talk) 00:19, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
- It's recipe 6911 which is producing item 38323, Giver's Iron Sword. It's stats are steel level, but its name is just iron. G R E E N E R 00:41, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
- Bleh. So rather than move the Giver's
SteelIron Sword to the Iron Sword page, I'm just gonna note it here as a typo. --Imry (talk) 03:27, 3 November 2016 (UTC)- Wow, no idea where my brain went. I didn't even think of looking for a name parameter. Much appreciated. G R E E N E R 03:34, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
- Giver's - the pain in the naming arse that keeps on giving. Note that ALL Giver's tier 3 weapons get the tier 2 item naming. The tier 2 Giver's mace gets the Bandit level naming to further the confusion. I haven't seen the same issue with the Giver's armor, but I haven't looked at it in detail yet. Anyone wanna ask ArenaNet about this, and if Anet is content, anyone have batch editing superpowers to update the wiki to note the SICness?

- Helpful info for me! Thanks, Incarnazeus! Jesself (talk) 17:32, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- If you don't mind, i'd rather we add a {{bug}} note to the bottom of the page instead of a sic note. Otherwise the "sic" template's contents (which includes the category "Category:Text errors") will show up whenever that item is queried for a name.
- For example, using
{{cname|Steel Sword#itemct8}}
would produce[[Steel Sword#itemct8|Giver's Iron[sic] Sword]]
and would place this page into Category:Text errors. - -Chieftain Alex 19:12, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- or maybe it should be the {{anomaly}} template? -Chieftain Alex 19:17, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- Until Anet confirms or denies oopsness, I like the notion of using the anomaly template. Jesself (talk) 19:25, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- Dunno if ANet is going to confirm an oopsness or not, but this isn't the only Givers weapon with a problem. I can't think of any where the name and skin mismatch, but there are plenty that use the wrong skin for their level and rarity. SarielV 19:48, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- I just reviewed all of the tier 3 Giver's weapon skins to the respective tier 2 and tier 3 Honed weapon skins; they all match - no anomalies with the skins. Jesself (talk) 21:37, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- All right, I know what happened. Steel/Seasoned Wood skins were a late addition. Before that, all Steel tier skins were Iron and Soft Wood. Givers recipes predate the change, so they never got updated. As for what I was talking about:

- I'm ignorant of the history of the Giver's and when tiers and skins were added, but all the Giver's skins match the Anet name, which makes sense to me. If the names were updated to match the expected conventional naming scheme, I would expect the skins to be updated to match the name changes. I completed my review of the discoverable weapons through tier 5 and confirmed SarielV's tier 4 darksteel observations and found that the same anomaly exists in tier 5 as well, again with only the greatsword, hammer, and mace. Unlike tier 3, at least the darksteel and mithril names are consistent with the weapon tiers' metal. I have updated my initial table to include the tier 4 and tier 5 anomalies, added a tier level column, an Anet name column, refined the wiki names into the canonical names, added the expected names, and added sortability. Jesself (talk) 06:16, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
- Gad, updates to Giver's -> Bringer's, but beyond the prefix, the naming anomalies mostly remain the same (some get worse). Weak sauce. From this worsening of consistency I'm assuming they don't care at about the irregularities and will continue down the path of disorder. Jesself (talk) 05:45, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
