Talk:Slay the rare creature
There was another "Slay the rare creature" one that spawned near the POI: Lair of the Beast during the sandstorm. A large devourer that dropped the Endless Monkey King Tonic for 3 of the ~10 players and the Mini Monkey King for 2 others. Separ (talk) 21:07, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
Three sir![edit]
Someone can't count. There's only four events listed. 50.121.0.178 21:52, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
- The API for events shows that there are five in exactly the same area. I suppose there's a couple to be discovered. --Spionida (talk) 22:55, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
I saw 3 of the beasts spawn at the same exact time. nevermind. I saw the dev response at the bottom and see that they patched it to now be on a rotation. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 173.58.160.140 (talk • contribs) at 15:50, 25 February 2016 (UTC).
Feedback 2018/08/09[edit]
All these times are 3 hours behind the actual spawn times --111.220.84.161 10:48, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- From what i recall the second time down is the one that's the active one. Not sure why the yellow highlight isn't working ... I will fix that. -Chieftain Alex 17:47, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

The schedule listed on this page does not have the time right for the Creatures listed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 47.133.209.174 (talk • contribs) at 00:48, 9 September 2021 (UTC).

I think the Wikipedia Manual of Style explains the purpose and style for Disambiguation pages quite well.
“Note that even though most disambiguation pages are kept in the Article namespace (mainspace), they are not articles. These pages are aids in searching for articles.
The style guidelines on this page aim to give disambiguation pages a consistent appearance and help the efficiency of searches by excluding extraneous information. Any page containing one of the disambiguation templates should contain only disambiguation content, whether or not the page title contains the parenthetical "(disambiguation)".
Disambiguation pages should function to clear up the ambiguity of those events, not for providing detailed information on the events themselves.
Context:
I've put in a ton of effort to clean up and centralise the info on the articles relating to the Slay the rare creature schedule so that we don't have duplicate info (except what is necessary) littered all over all the pages, and is horrible to maintain. Based on the info I've gathered, the champ tables just show the times during the Sandstorm! meta event schedule at which their respective events are coded to occur at exactly XX:45, 5 minutes after the meta event starts (ie. the events used to be random, it is not anymore). Based on these patch notes Game updates/2016-02-24#Dry Top.
I have added clear context and links on the event articles to the Sandstorm! meta event article, which is the most appropriate place to centralise the schedule info as it is the parent meta for the 5 events. It no longer seems necessary to have the schedule on this page, which felt more like an interim solution.
The note on this page about the events being part of the meta schedule is now redundant and common knowledge due to age, and should really only be one note on the parent Sandstorm! article. I have removed the redundancy across multiple articles, hence the removal from here and also in an effort to reduce overuse of the Notes section.
I plan to clean up the remaining 5 pages about the champions themselves for consistency.
A couple of points:
- If another Slay the rare creature named event were to be created outside of Dry Top, it would go on this disambiguation page, and it would not make any sense for the Dry Top specific info to remain on the page.
- Displaying the schedules on this disambiguation page takes it out of the context that it should be in, that those particular events specifically happen during the Sandstorm! meta every hour, gives favour to the zephyrites etc. another reason for directing the user to the article they should be reading.
- It's been mentioned that searching for the in-game event name takes you to this page as a reason for the schedule to be added here.
- The function of this disambiguation page is not to be an article for the event, but point the user to the correct article they are looking for.
- Also users looking for info about the event are likely searching for the boss they need, not the event name, more specifically for Dune Soarer because that's the boss out of the 5 that drops the required item for the leggy Kraitkin I: The Experimental Trident (and the whole reason devs changed the events to be on this schedule in the first place.)
- Additionally take an example such as the page A race is starting soon!. I just don't think it would make sense to include common information or schedules on this page from every race event listed, if we were to use the mentioned justification that users are going to search for this event name in-game. Again, the point of the disambiguation page is to aid users to direct them to the article they are looking for and get the information there.
The majority of disambiguation pages do not display any information other than links to the associated ambiguous articles. The ones that do, I would argue need to be cleaned up. If event articles are part of a set with the same name, then common contextual information should be in the parent meta event if possible. It should not be cluttering the disambiguation pages. --Caeldom (talk) 20:05, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- I am personally indifferent if we leave the timer there or not, though at the same time it could start a precedent where users would start copying info from the main pages onto the disambig, for example the acqusition methods for skins which we don't want. I do want to add though that we do not necessarily follow wikipedia norms and formatting 1:1. ~Sime 15:53, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
