Talk:Mordant Crescent
Name[edit]
Is it jus me or does this name sound very similar to the incredibly silly game of "Mornington Crescent"? (Not that I believe it to be a reference in any way, just a fun similarity :)) --Winterbay 13:24, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- I am always thinking of the Fertile Crescent or the islamic Crescent in general. --Longasc 15:10, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- I was thinking the moon is like a crescent, kind of the opposite of the sun.
- I've always thought of a dark crescent moon, because the Mordant Crescent are kinda "dark" Sunspears. Calor 19:39, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Islamic Crescent makes me think of cruscaunts... -- Armond Warblade 08:22, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- The most suited definition of Mordant is, brutal, effective. Also crescent has a turn, in this case a turn to the dark side. So this means a turn to the dark side (which is effective), and is likely not a reffrance to anything since it is literaly translated.--Ribo 03:21, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Sith ftw. The Mordant Crescent sound like badasses. I'd play as one of them if I could.71.228.50.12 01:32, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- The "Mordant" also is a trill (in music), at least on the piano 95.119.32.111 20:20, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Chaos Sword[edit]
If it's added i can see alot of people having fun with their "lightsabre" as a mordant crescent. ;) --80.194.167.119 17:45, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- I personally thought of Death Knights. 68.193.113.198 20:19, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Concept Art[edit]
I'd like to see some concept art for these guys. I could imagine some undead Sunspears with ruined armor, standing over the corpses of some of the Sunspears that refused to serve Joko. It'd be nice to see what they might look like. - Ara ~ A R A ~ 21:34, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- Any concept art beyond "Snow Battle" is wanted. Also, these guys are living (or at least some of them are). -- Konig Des Todes 00:40, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- You know, I'm inclined to wonder what the ghostly spirit of Sogolon The Protector had to say about his precious Sunspear order bowing down to the first all-powerful, undead, grand conqueror that came along. I would think that the spirits of Sunspears past might play a small role somewhere, but I guess not, seeing as the Sunspears fell to Joko in the end. Just some speculation. ~ A R A ~ 04:28, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- (Sorry for the double post) By the way Konig, I recall reading somewhere on this wiki that part of the Mordant Crescent are undead. It makes sense when you think about it; Joko would probably raise them as eternal minions, effectively boosting his army. Similar to how the Romans used to use slaves in their military. ~ A R A ~ 23:54, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- The ghosts might have a say, but Joko seems to have control over ghosts as well based on the ghosts in the Desolation. And not all Sunspears are gone, the order is just gone. The Mordant Crescent is partial undead and partial living. Just like all of Joko's army and all of Elona now. -- Konig/talk 01:16, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I actually liked the sunspears...[edit]
speaking of which... what about all those legendary sunspears out there... won't this kinda ruin any GW2 benefit from that title?...Τελέως 23:38, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- There are still normal sunseaprs out there. The organization is just dead. And seeing how we don't know how the benefits will work, it probably won't. -- Konig Des Todes 04:18, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- The order has been destroyed most members and commanders were killed, and the players' heroes eventually died during the passing years so i don't think it would matter. --Majere 11:36, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- yeah... I spose you're right... still... I kinda hope an expansion comes that allows you to go to Elona (maybe thorugh the desert or something...) Τελέως 23:37, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
- It is still possible for Elona, or parts of it, to be in the initial release. There are two in-game scenes which hint of desert area, one of more Elona than the other. Though I do doubt it, it is possible. And would make some sense as unless Anet intends to skip Elona or Cantha in GW2, combining Tyria and Elona in the initial release would allow them to get to other areas even sooner (such as where Utopia was going to take place). -- Konig/talk 00:17, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- Utopia is Eye of the North, the only thing they took away from it were the new classes. 76.255.72.43 15:52, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
- Not really, Sidhe were removed (later being changed to Sylvari it seems), and many of the "high tech" themes were removed. It is more that "what was done for Utopia was put into Eye of the North" not "Utopia is Eye of the North" - the main enemies were changed from Tanneks (and some unknown army the Tanneks were a part of) to Destroyers even. -- Konig/talk 16:50, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
- Because in GW2 we are focusing on killing Zhaitan who raised the undead corsairs to block passage in or out of Tyria, with Zhaitan gone we will be able to go to Elona and Cantha in the first expansion, but I would believe that Zhaitan's forces would kinda lose their objective when they lose Zhaitan kinda like the destroyers with The Great Destroyer, so I would think that we would go to Elona first because 1 It's closer and 2 Palawa Joko's forces would want to move and control the land that Zhaitan's forces were holding. - Giant Nuker 20:03, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

- as to pass to Elona, you may ally with the Order of Whispers again Zachariah Zuan. 13:40, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
Joko's Undead Army[edit]
will these ex-Sunspears ally with them? it'd make sense Zachariah Zuan. 18:23, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- As said in the Movement, the Mordant Crescent are Sunspears turned over by Joko's bribes. So yes, they are allied with Joko. -- Konig/talk 22:04, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- hopefully in GW2 you can choose your path...I hate always being the hero...I wanna ally with Joko Zachariah Zuan. 17:53, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Highly doubt that will be an option, as the whole idea of GW2 is that your the hero trying to defeat the dragons, Joko either being an ally against them, another faction completely, or an enemy. --BloodStain 19:34, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- I personally hope Joko isn't a villain in GW2, he might be a bit oppressive, but he isn't that terrible if you think about it. Seeing how he only kills or starves (once he got his rule) when the people disobey him (what leader wouldn't punish usurpers?). Also, I wanna play as an undead. ^^ -- Konig/talk 21:39, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Joko's the usurper. Presumably there will someday be a GW2 campaign with the goal of defeating him. Ramei Arashi 03:10, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- Konig, you are eternally biased in all things undead. ^.^
- Likely we will deal with him somewhere in the expected Elonian Expansion.--Corsair 03:16, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm hardly biased (well, maybe a little). I just like Joko in particular. He's the best "villain" in GW1 in my opinion, and I'd rather see him as an anti-hero than the antagonist. -- Konig/talk 04:29, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hell, I've liked A LOT of the villains in GW, the Mursaat, Joko, Charr, and Shiro. Shiro felt human and that he wasn't all that bad until after he was corrupted, the Mursaat had genuine reasons for everything that they did, the Charr were just always an awesome and original enemy, and Joko was just fun. He's like the enlightened despot who joking with will either end in laughter or death. I imagine him keeping some sort of jester around...--Corsair 04:38, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- The mursaat were evil. They enslaved a an entire nation and would have enslaved the the entire planet if they could have. They had thousands of innocent people murdered. They brought down their own destruction by their evil deeds. As for the charr, I don't like them being in GW2. GW2 essentially makes the heros of Guild Wars 1 (thats us) failures. We did not drive out the charr, killing their "gods" only turned them into atheists. Saving the Canthan emperor only leades to a dictatorship in Cantha. And we released another evil on Elona in defeating Abaddon. I hope GW 2 heroes have a better out come. Ramei Arashi 01:48, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- You didn't fail! GW2 is realistic. Honestly, history repeats itself; there will most likely always be "another war" coming eventually. Tyria is no different. Yes, you saved the emperor, and his empire prospered and thrived because of you. Decades later Cantha is under tyranny; does that mean you failed? Not in the least! Things like this have happened in the real world as well. A nation is saved from one problem, but years later it falls into more trouble. Does this mean you should just give up and let it suffer from its current problem? No! You should be persistent and take things as they come. GW2 does NOT make you failures, not in the least. Killing their "gods" saved many, and helped create peace. Just because the peace didn't last forever doesn't mean that it was all in vain, for surely every moment of peace that was experienced was worth it to those who had suffered the war. I don't know, maybe I'm rambling a bit, but do you get what I mean? You can't consider the present a failure (even in victory) just because the future may hold more troubles, or you will never overcome the obstacles in your life. --Amannelle 01:58, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- We have screwed up a lot over the course of the games, tho. Particularly Prophesies? The last like TWO-THIRDS of that game is basically trying to fix you're own mistakes... Zolann The Irreverent 02:02, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think we will soon find out (Winds of Change) that saving the emperor was a mistake. Nothing good can come from a Ministry of Purity. And I really hope our characters won't be doing quests for the ministry. The Dragon Empire has a peace treaty with the Angchu Tengu, it should keep it. Ramei Arashi 00:14, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

- How the hell are charr evil? Ancient ascalonions forced charr out of their homes. Yes, current ascalonions did no evil but can you realy say charr are evil? And as for "meat" talk... they are carnivorous... an animal has to eat. And for mursaat, how is trying to survive evil? Would humanity let lions live if we heard from a reliable source that lions will evolve into some awsome beast that will wipe out our civilization? kren3 08:19, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Mordant Weapons[edit]
A Mordant weapon set has been data-mined. The weapons are bone-themed with gold coins and ornaments. I don't know about putting too many data-mined images on the wiki, but should these start going up? Lysander (talk) 22:46, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
