Talk:Modniir Ulgoth
Title or name[edit]
While there was one NPC, I recall, making it sound like Ulgoth is a title, other NPCs - including Outcast Qindova and a generically named Seraph Guard in Fort Salma, indicate to him as being an individual named Ulgoth (mostly by the latter - "most [of the centaurs] fight out of fear of Ulgoth the Mighty" and "Two hundred years later, Ulgoth united them, then used the reunited modniir to dominate the other tribes" and finally "With the size and strength of all three tribes, Ulgoth seeks revenge on those who crushed the centaurs two hundred years ago"). Giving that an individual could be given the title "the Norn" by other races (e.g., humans can call Ulgoth "the Modniir") and "Modniir Ulgoth" isn't quite showing that it's a title, I'm more inclined to think that Ulgoth is a name. - It might still be either. It might even have been retconned at some point. Furthermore, you kill Ulgoth several times (similiar to events such as one in same zone where you must save a sylvari Captain Marshal, and if you don't, there will be a replacement referred to as his brother), and nothing really states that Modniir High Sage (sounds like a very different role from War King imo) from human tutorial is Ulgoth, AFAIK. - There are several named NPCs who are killed and return from dynamic events - one such case being Champion Draithor the Drill. It may have been changed mid-production, however there's still more saying it's a name rather than a title, so unless we get confirmation I'm going with what's more commonly seen (as there are various inconsistent notions throughout - and I'd think a centaur scholar of the Harathi would be able to tell the difference to say "Ulgoth" versus "the Ulgoth" if it were a title). As to the High Sage being Ulgoth, After Action Report: Hands of Ulgoth - same skill seen when fighting Ulgoth himself, and the High Sage is never killed (since he flees). There also isn't another "High Sage" among the centaurs either, iirc. But I'm willing to concede that part if you still don't believe them to be one in the same (someone can have two roles in a society they dictate though). Konig/talk 15:35, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
- I think there's a high monster rank Modniir sage event boss, but can't remember its exact name. I used to think that the High Sage's greater earth elemental was referred to Ulgoth for the sage's respect for their leader, or perhaps the spell was originally created by Ulgoth himself. It seems kind of weird for someone to call a summoned creature their own hands. Anyyway, the article looks good as it is right now. Mediggo 16:25, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

I so want to add his most frequent quote: bugger all. He sits there on his cliff, constantly reciting sod all. It amuses the peasants who like to reply with returnspacereturn. Maybe it's his equivalent of the manga staple "..." I'm guessing if I did add his quote of nothingness, people would get tetchy, so I won't. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Snograt (talk • contribs).
