Talk:Krait Obelisk Shard
So, just what kind of buff do you get?
How long does it last?
Does it act like the SPs that say "commune with this place of power"?
How many can be installed in a Home Instance? --Gold Recluse (talk) 04:40, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, it's a Skill Point thing. One per account, according to a guildie. Not a buff, gives one SP. --Gold Recluse (talk) 05:38, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Quite a sad update/release not friendly to the casual (read: non-daily GW2 players who actually have jobs) gamers. The reward of getting a skill point ONLY ONCE and just getting to charge quartz crystals after that (and the description of the item itself is SO misleading you to believe that you actually get a skill point EVERYDAY but not really) is just not commensurate to the effort getting to complete all 14 requirements just to get the resource node.
Thing is, the Antitoxin skill to protect you from all those Toxic mobs is just not enough to make you solo to get those 14 requirements at such a limited time (especially for those who cannot login and play everyday), and at higher levels not everyone actually has about 25 skillpoints at the ready to get the skill itself.
Also, not everyone had actually gotten the Quartz Crystal Formation resource node to get those Quartz Crystals when the Bazaar of the Four Winds update came up. And not everyone is really that stoked over joining pvp-like Sanctum Sprint just to get even a -chance- (note, just a mere -chance-) to get some crystals. So not everyone actually has Quartz Crystals to charge at this Krait Obelisk Shard to begin with (UNLESS, you have the Zephyr Sanctum return and have some kind of a Bazaar of the Four Winds redux with the same reward).
So really, the resource has NO USE right after you get that ONE TIME SKILL POINT and it just feels so annoying seeing it there on your home instance when you don't even have any Quartz Crystals to use there.
This game really good at making you believe that it is friendly to casual gamers and they wouldn't really miss much and you can solo things... when you actually -cannot-. It is getting to be a grind now rather than play at your own pace and that is starting to become annoying and less enjoyable. Shinya (talk) 11:13, 26 November 2013 (UTC)shinya
- I agree that the reward isn't terribly interesting, but it's quite easy to get the achievement. I had rushed to complete this meta when it first came out, but there was no need to do that, because it's pretty hard to avoid encountering Toxic stuff just through regular play. Even if you only ever did the daily achieves, there's been a lot of time since the Tower first showed up and now. Not to mention that (as far as anyone knows) the content will continue to be available until enough people use antitoxin on the tower. Last night, the bar was a bit under halfway full, so there's still probably a week left or so. You could do nothing but run around Queensdale occasionally and easily finish the Tower of Nightmares daily - and at the same time that would contribute towards progress towards the fixed dailies, so it wouldn't even take 14 separate days.
- The Toxic mobs are definitely harder than a lot of other enemy groups, but it's more because they are punishing to anyone not built for survivability (lots of conditions, high spike damage). The actual damage dealt by Toxic Pollen is quite low, but it lasts such a long time that the most dangerous part is when you want to run from combat but can't get away. Bandage won't work while under the pollen effect, and the mobs tend to follow for quite a distance - so my basic assumption has been, if I go down, I'm going to be defeated. As such, I play it extra careful and make sure to run really far away if my health is getting low and I don't think I'll make it. I don't actually take the Antitoxin Skill anymore, since it's often more efficient to just heal through it, and most other healing skills for any profession are stronger.
- You can actually buy Quartz Crystals off the Trading Post, so I'm not sure what the problem is there. True, if you had the Quartz Node already, this release is extra valuable to you...but it's not like you "can't" get them. Vili 点 15:52, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
I just used mine in my home instance and gained a LEVEL on my 39 character. Went to 40 and same % of Exp toward the next level. Can anyone else confirm? Dargus (talk) 22:18, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- You get experience for completing any skill challenge, you were probably close to level 40.--Relyk ~ talk < 22:21, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
Kraitkin III: Venom[edit]
Now that we have Kraitkin III: Venom, some of the obelisk shards are active again. What should we do? Archive this page and start a new one (something like "Krait Obelisk Shard (object)")? Or do we just add on to this one?
FWIW, the new text is:
- The dark energy of the Krait appears to be concentrated here.
- Use your Krait Focusing Crystal to commune with the animus.
- Leave it alone.
And afterwards, the first option disappears. At least, that's the one at the Stygian Deeps. --Imry (talk) 08:27, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
- Using the same picture (for this page, and the Home Instance page Krait Obelisk page) is confusing, I believe. Inculpatus cedo (talk) 19:35, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- How so? They looked the same to me unless my graphics are going. - Doodleplex 19:37, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

- Definitely looks like the Home Instance, to me, rather than 'out-in-the-open-world'. I suppose it doesn't matter, but it took me awhile to figure out they were two different pages, talking about different items. (Even using a different Home Instance picture might help, though, if using an open world screenshot would be too difficult.) Inculpatus cedo (talk) 19:42, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. I'll see if I can't get a picture of it that's more location ambiguous, I think that should help. - Doodleplex 19:49, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
