How is it technically less effective than potent master maintenance oils? Potent costs a total of 40 jugs of water + 6 crystalline dusts, whereas this costs 20 jugs of water + 3 crystalline dust + 1 powerful venom sack. For 3 hours of buffs, that would mean 120 jugs of water + 18 crystalline dust for potent oil, compared to 80 jugs of water, 12 crystalline dust, and 4 venom sacks for Hylek oil. 104.39.119.214 00:15, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- Let's define 1 base unit (BU) as 20 JoW + 3 PoCD, such that the MMO requires 1 BU and the HMO requires 1 BU plus 1 PVS. Now, all of these recipes (for MMO, PMMO, and HMO) all have an output quantity of 5. Because the PMMO requires 1 BU + 1 MMO, the carried-forward cost is only 1/5 of the MMO recipe cost, meaning the total cost of the PMMO is 1.2 BU.

- Thus, even when you ignore the extra SVC, the HMO is already more costly in terms of BUs per minute. —Dr Ishmael 01:16, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- Dr Ishmael, you're looking at it from a production and duration perspective. However, if you factor in the cost, Hylek Maintenance Oil is- at least at the time of this writing- more cost-effective and efficient. Where the prices of mats are: Jug of Water - 8 copper; Pile of Crystalline Dust - 19 silver 43 copper (sell price); Powerful Venom Sac - 5 silver 99 copper (sell price), then 5 units of Potent Master Maintenance Oil costs 1 gold 19 silver and 78 copper to make, while 5 Hylek Maintenance Oil costs 65 silver 88 copper. 1 PMMO thus costs 23 silver 95.6 copper. 1 HMO costs 13 silver 17.6 copper. To compare between the two by their durations, 3 PMMOs gives you 3 hours, while it takes 4 HMOs to give you the same. 3 PMMOs will cost you 71 silver 86.8 copper, but 4 HMOs costs only 52 silver 70.4 copper. So while you may be using less PMMOs over time, you're also spending more to make and use them. On this note, I think this article should refrain from judging one oil as better than the other where their costs change according to the in-game market. I move that content of the Notes section of the article be removed as such. --Messenger (talk) 12:47, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

- Factoring in the cost of each item from the TP, PMMO is still superior per hour. -Chieftain Alex 12:13, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- edit: I realise where you screwed your calculation up, MMO recipe returns 5x MMOs, not 1x. PMMO = 20 Water + 3 Dust + 1 MMO = 20 Water + 3 Dust + (20 Water + 3 Dust)/5 = 24 Water + 3.6 Dust. Ergo the cost of 5x PMMO was 71s 87c (not 1g 19s 78c).
- hence the cost of 3 PMMOs is 43 12 compared with 4 HMOs at 52 70 . -Chieftain Alex 12:31, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- Argh. Yeah, I made a mistake. :-( Sorry. --Messenger (talk) 17:26, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
