Mining results[edit]

To expand on some comments from the history, it can be mined 6 times for 12 results. With a range of 12-24 corn the average is probably closer to 18. Spannu (talk) 03:48, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

That is the total including the existing candy corn node. The upgrade only counts for half of that, so its own effect is +9, not +18. 76.253.2.43 12:34, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
They are separate nodes that can't exist simultaneously; they have separate costs and harvests. This node has double the corn of the old one; its mechanically different from saying two were mined at the same time so half of the result didn't really count. Also, even on the smaller node there are 3 strikes for 6 results, giving 6-12 corn. The average time to recover would be only 278 days if theres an equal chance for 1 or 2 pieces of corn, but there's no data to support that. Spannu (talk) 16:13, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
The item description says it's an upgrade. Are you saying it can be purchased by itself, before the player has an existing node? Please confirm. 76.253.2.43 09:09, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
There is also no data to support that the chance is biased toward the min or max, so choosing only one figure is completely arbitrary. Average at least hedges between them. Casual observation however, suggests the chances are more equal than they are unequal. I've never seen a group of harvests where only 1 or only 2 pieces were returned. 76.253.2.43 09:12, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
The nodes are purchased separately to fully upgrade it. The first node is a sunk cost after it is upgraded as there is no way to know how much time someone is going to spend between the two, and the node changes its name and model so the "upgrade" replaces it with a better node. The old node simply doesn't exist after you upgrade it, so its contribution is +0 if both are still being considered at that point. It's also arbitrary to say this node would pay for double it's cost in twice the time, but if the intent is to clarify for players buying both at once it should be worded better. Spannu (talk) 15:07, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
Ok, so you are paying 5 cobs for the first 6-12 pieces/day, and you are paying another 5 cobs for the second 6-12 pieces/day. Those are separate amounts that are each attributable to the item you are buying. The fact that the node itself is "replaced" is completely irrelevant, the only thing that matters is the output that you are receiving for your investment. I don't know how to make this any clearer to you, it's really obvious logic. I will request for a third party to provide comment. 76.253.2.43 11:17, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
(Average new output per day) - (Average old output per day) = (Output provided by Greater Gift per day)
(Cost of Greater Gift) / (Output provided by Greater Gift per day) = (# of days to recoup the Cost of Greater Gift via the Greater Gift)
Or more succinctly:
(New rate) - (Old rate) = (Change in rate)
(Cost) / (Change in rate) = (Time)
Plunk in the values as you will. G R E E N E R 16:17, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Greener and the IP are quite correct. While sunk cost is a basic concept of economics, so is opportunity cost (changing the original candy corn node to the king size has an opportunity cost of daily mining the original one, which is ~9 per day, thus you are spending 5000 candy corns to gain a net ~9 candy corns per day over what you would otherwise have). That being said... If you also have a friend who has the original, unupgraded candy corn node, you can actually mine both (and so can they) which changes up the math quite a bit. - Tanetris (talk) 01:13, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
Per your own note, Greener and the IP are incorrect: the second purchase isn't associated with a "second 6-12 pieces"; the game allows mining both because they are mechanically separate. The output of the smaller node is ~9/day and the output of the greater node is ~18/day; players can choose to have one or the other or both (with friends). Saying the node takes as long to pay for only itself as the smaller one is not true because players cannot harvest this node and only receive half of the total on average. That implies either there is a cost of -9 from losing the old node with +9 from the new one (no net change), or that a player is harvesting both nodes simultaneously for +9 (arbitrarily ignoring the contribution of one node), when in fact you can harvest both nodes daily for +27 on average. That is:
* It takes the old node 556 days to pay for itself.
* It takes the old node 556 to pay for this upgrade.
* It takes the new node 278 days to pay for itself.
* It takes the new node 556 days to pay for both nodes together.
It's up to players to decide which combination to purchase/harvest but they're still separate costs/nodes. Aside from all that, other editors can decide which information here is most useful. My preference is for correctness but if a summary is clearer that's okay too. Spannu (talk) 22:29, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Rare Drop of Large Candy Bag[edit]

I can't 100% confirm yet but I think this node and maybe the lesser version has a very rare chance to drop a Large Candy Bag.pngLarge Candy Bag. It has happened twice now where I harvest my home instance and find one of these in my inventory. I try to check the log but by the time I realize it but too much time has passed or the logged filled too much and could not find when it dropped. --Mistress Elemental (talk) 20:49, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

Been harvesting them for years and never seen one drop. Aro User Aro Signature Logo.gif 22:18, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

Gathering after upgrade[edit]

Under notes, it states "You may gather from the normal candy corn node first then upgrade it on the same day and be able to gather it again." This is not true. I gathered from a normal gift of candy corn, upgraded later in the same day, went back to my home instance, however the candy corn still showed as still mined. This comment should be removed. -dotcanada (talk) 19:27, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

I was able to visit my home today, gather from the old, purchase the upgrade, revisit my home, and gather again. Tyrene (talk) 03:57, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
