Talk:Gallery of greatswords
I noticed that you added categories, nice. Will this gallery now have to be manually updated? I know the old one included a lot of generic/duplicate/karma/junk weapons. Shimpchip 03:56, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
- They will have to be manually updated. I originally created the automatically updating galleries as a temporary solution until they could be organized properly. If we stick with the format the way it is currently, all of the galleries will need to be updated manually. --Souldonkey 20:27, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
- I don't see the point of splitting the gallery into sections when it's just a gallery of greatsword images. Individual weapon sets already have their own pages you can link to at the top or bottom.--Relyk 20:31, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
Automatic Gallery[edit]
This should be moved back to an automatic gallery. Jotun Greatsword is missing on this page. Due to the manual nature of everything, more weapons will continually be missed. Shimpchip talk
- agreed, we're missing about 20 skins off here -_- --Chieftain Alex 08:56, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
- No argument here. I made it automatic for that reason. I figured if anyone wanted to manually organize it and could keep it updated they could, but I just wanted a list. I don't see the need for organization when you can just find the weapon you like and click on it to go to that page. Automatically updating the list seems like the most efficient method for something like this. --Souldonkey 20:46, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Just a little note since I'm guessing both of you will see this here, I'm experimenting with using the Property:Has appearance to do these galleries - this would lift the image directly from the weapon gallery infobox. (even if its been shittily named) Chieftain Alex 21:43, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Multi screenshots[edit]
- The Ghastly Greatsword only shows the night skin in the gallery. It would be much better to see the Day skin too. Since it seems to be auto-generated, I couldn't add the 2nd one. Is there any way to improve the automatic gallery, so that it can show 2 versions side by side when needed ?
- Side note : I took a look at history and saw the nice sub categories. They are not as important as the double skin thing, but still nice when you are viewing the gallery. Once again, it would be nice if it were possible to improve the automatic gallery (this would probably be hard to do unless we either add sub categories to all items (like "dungeon weapon") or unless it's possible to write real code in wiki language (in our case something that would do an INNER JOIN job))

Greatsword weapon skins missing[edit]
I don't see Fused Greatsword Skin, Sclerite Greatsword Skin, Dragon's Jade Avenger Skin, and Fellblade. I do see Greatsaw Greatsword Skin, so the answer isn't that skin-only skins aren't included. How can the missing skins be added to the gallery? --Datrulegend (talk) 07:45, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- For the template to work, it needs two things, a) they need to use the infobox gallery method (fixed for fellblade), and b) they need to be in Category:Greatswords. (the categorisation is a bit crude, I think we discussed using a semantic property "is for weapon type" somewhere, but that didn't happen in the end.) -Chieftain Alex 10:03, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- I see you added the skins I linked as well. Thanks for the instructions too! I'll be sure to use those methods next time I notice a discrepancy when I'm browsing through a gallery. --Datrulegend (talk) 18:30, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
Lacking some weapons[edit]
Today while I was searching a weapon I saw on a character (which I found latter being Glittering Greatsword) I saw that some weapons are lacking on the galleries. Was willing to add it to that one but I dunno how to do that so if anyone wanna update them !
Feedback 2017/03/12[edit]
The Gallery lists 2 'Iron Greatswords'; I believe one of them is Belinda's Greatsword. --Inculpatus cedo (talk) 12:22, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- It is, but only because this page exists. Sythe 12:42, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- Oh, ok. Sorry. Inculpatus cedo (talk) 12:53, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- Usually with these oddities I write up I also set them as uncategorized so confusing things like this won't happen. I fixed that, but it looks like it is still showing up in the gallery all the same. SarielV 17:28, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- Gallery might take a bit to update... or it could be another smw bug *shrug* -Darqam 17:30, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- I think the gallery code may not take it into account, something I didn't know XD Skin infobox says not to use Categorize if Status is set, so I removed categorize. Also did the same with [[Belinda's Greatsword (Imbued)]]. SarielV 17:35, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- So long as Iron Greatsword (Belinda's Greatsword skin) uses the "Has skin type::Greatsword" property, it will show up in the gallery. We can either remove the property, or find a way to make {{Weapon gallery}} suppress unimplemented content. Unlike {{Weapon set gallery}}, this one isn't pulling from the category. - I chose to suppress historical content. Everything should be okay now. -Chieftain Alex 18:11, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- *Grumble* *Grumble*... I forgot that historical is defaulted to N. Meanwhile I've been browsing SMW code trying to ensure that I'd found the proper "not" symbol, and going through the logic of what it may or may not grab. Thanks Alex! G R E E N E R 18:20, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- Just for the record, you could use "n", "no", "NO", "false", "FALSE" too. -Chieftain Alex 18:24, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I have a question, do we need to record every single thing that pops up in the API with it's own page, even if it's stuff that was never intended to go live such as that greatsword or the Holologicus shield? I feel it doesn't really add anything of value as it could have been easily summoned up in a trivia blurb every once in a while. - Doodleplex 18:33, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- Presumably this is being directed at me, as the main culprit ;D I've given my justification for this elsewhere - at some point, someone with more skills will be able to do something with the data if it is there. Knowing the structure of the data set as well as where the gaps are and what is in them helps with exploration. For the casual user, that's probably not important. When you're answering the 50 billionth iteration of "Did we ever figure out how to make the Destroyer Scythe?" or "Why doesn't wiki have anything about this sword that that_shaman datamined?" it helps to have something to back it up. SarielV 19:47, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- Nah, it was just a general question, if you made most of them, news to me heh. What about turning these pages into redirects after the item is changed and goes live, that way people can still search for it, but it doesn't cause any issues like the one here. Like for example, people could still search for that greatsword skin, but would get redirected to what the item was later turned into and is in game, and just stick a note at the bottom to answer the "why"? - Doodleplex 20:21, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- Defeats the purpose of linking the item to an index. Ultimately, though, I'm not dead set on having the info around. If you want it gone, get rid of it. SarielV 20:34, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- It's less of a "get rid of them all rawwr!" and more of an "if the chat code is only used by the final version"/"connecting the dots of where some things came from" sorta thing. That's the case for the greatsword at least, but not all items/skills/etc. so those I'd probably leave be. - Doodleplex 20:40, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

Missing skins[edit]
I noticed the skin Nightspeaker Greatsword Skin missing. I tried to figure out how the automatic categorizing by templates works, but couldn't quite figure out if me changing stuff will possibly break other automatic stuff elsewhere, so it's probably better someone familiar with all the automation does the changes. Not sure if other skins are missing as well. -- (gem / talk) 21:02, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, the template only fetches existing images, which is why the Nightspeaker Greatsword isn't showing up (since it lacks a picture). talk 21:05, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) If a skin is missing on this page, it means a picture has not been added to the weapon page yet, in this case that would be the Nightspeaker Greatsword as it does not indeed have any picture. If you have a pic, feel free to upload it on the page and it will automatically (or with the help of the Purge button) appear in the gallery. ~Sime 21:08, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
