Sounds like Minas Tirith.

Sounds like Minas Tirith. Shido 18:22, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Minus levels and army-fort-esque feeling. Calor (t) 21:31, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Or looking like a ship emerging from a cliff. In other words, it shares some characteristics with hundreds of fantastic cities (including Minas Tirith), but lacks any of the defining characteristics of Minas Tirith. It's a bit like noting a description of a city includes roads, and saying, "Oh, sounds like Paris!" :p --68.187.144.197 22:00, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I thought that sounded like Rome, not Paris. :P Lord Belar 22:02, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
More Roman than Parisian. Calor (t) 22:07, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't know, I would have to agree with Shido. It looks a lot like Minas Tirith... And it DOES appear to have multiple tiers like Minas Tirith. Elendor 23:14, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Also looks a lot like the Imperial City in Oblivion with it's round shape and divided city districts. 193.215.199.34 12:20, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Oblivion and the Imperial City was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw it. -- Kings & Queens | T | C | 12:44, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Concept Art

This might be old, but there's some concept art for Divinty's Reach over at Ten Ton Hammer. It's just too bad we can't use it on the wiki. Auslander 17:24, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

O.o. Why can't we? Licensing? Calor Talk 01:43, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
I found a better image from bldg blog with no watermark. Since it's an ArenaNet image with no modification it should be fine to post here, no? Auslander 03:10, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Looks awesome, can't wait to explore that place. Cress Arvein User Cress Arvein sig.JPG 22:36, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

I have some theories about divinity's Reach and surrounding areas. One of the main things that most Fantasy MMOs have is some sort of "Medieval" area with the stereotypical stone towers and castles. Guild Wars lacked this, with the exception of areas in PRE. I think that the area around Divinity's Reach will be more wooded, and less "Shore-like" than Kryta. If you look at the uncovered portions of a map in Kryta, and that area north of that big body of water, it will look more wooded, and possibly, it will look more medieval. It says in Movement of the World that after Lion's Arch flooded, the Krytans moved northward away from the ocean to be safe of flooding. I believe that this was as far as past the large body of water north of Divinity's Coast. I believe that this large body of water has "Divinity" in it such as "Divinity's Gaze", or "Divinity's Essence". Divinity's Reach may be near the NORTHERN coast of that body of water. Furthermore, if you read the Guild Wars Official Wiki, you will see that Watch Tower Coast's massive watchtowers were built in times past to defend Kryta from some unnamed "Northern Threat". This "Northern Threat" could be just about anything. Titans, Mursaat, Tanneks, Hekets, Grawl, or more of those undead. So far, these are all of my theories, but I may add more in the future. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Eragon610 (talk).

Just to point out something about your theory that you should know. The two lakes are called "Giant's Basin". There is one known "Northern Threat" - that is the Charr, which assaulted Kryta from the landmass between the two lakes. Aside from that, only Tengu and Centaurs are known to be in that area. Hekets are desert dweller cousins of the Frogmen. Titans were not unleashed, Tanneks don't exist *they were the original idea for Destroyers*, Grawl don't live in that area *Shiverpeaks and Charr Homelands/Ascalon*, undead only appeared in 1070, and came from the south *unless Zoldark had an army in the past and attacked Kryta*. The whole "Divinity" idea sounds like bogus to me tbh. Not that you'll ever really see this though, I'm sure. The threat was most likely Tengu, btw, who are known to live north of Kryta and within Kryta. -- Konig Des Todes 19:20, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

How about the Norn? 216.232.127.117 21:15, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

As far as we know, the Norn haven't gone out of their way to make war in lands that are not their own. In fact, the only war we know of them being in is with the Dredge, and that's over a new land/a good challenge. So it's unlikely that the Norn were the "northern threat". I think it would have be Tengu or Centaurs that are the threat. -- Konig Des Todes 15:31, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Possible Divinity's Reach

During the in-game footage part of the trailer, there's a scene of a castle town that looks very Krytan in origin. It could be Divinity's Reach, as it matches the description, and slightly resembles the concept art.

Location?

Where exactly IS Divinity's Reach? The movement of the world says it's at the edge of Divinity's Coast. Perhaps this should be incorporated into text? Perhaps a map with the assumed location?--Cyberman 23:35, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

The GW2 map will look different from the GW1 map. Feel free to add its location to the article, though.-- Shew talk 23:44, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
If you look on your map in GW1, find the Divinity's Coast mission. I'd assume the GW2 location of Divinity's Reach is in that general area. 97.120.218.101 03:03, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
That is assuming there wasn't some crazy tectonic movement or other force of nature changing the layout. I would suggest specifying it being on the south shore of the divinity coast, but be a little ambiguous because of the lack of confirmed landscape information in the area.--Xerelin 15:41, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Too big?

First off, everything about this city looks mind-blowingly incredible. The building designs, palaces, and gardens are truly impressive. But honestly, how big will this city be? Of course big is good (especially with this standard of quality), but might it become annoying to take a few minutes just to walk from one district to another? Finding your friends or specific characters seems as difficult as finding a person in a real city. Don't get me wrong. This is one of the most impressive and immersive settings I've ever seen in a game, but is anyone else a bit daunted? 72.77.112.119 21:00, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Two things: 1) I believe it's already been stated that the cities will have free gate transport locations between areas within them, and 2) unfortunately, as big as it LOOKS, the amount of it we actually get to visit probably won't be nearly as much. This is a sadly common feature of huge RPG cities. (Ever heard of Midgar? Esthar? Lindblum? Bevelle? Eden? Yeah, FF sure loves pulling this...) For instance, the parapets of Divinity's Reach, which appear to be a huge and complicated mixture of buildings and towers (seen here) will probably not be explorable, despite how awesome such an intricate location would be to explore... Arshay Duskbrow 05:55, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
If I saw it right in the various demo's from gamescon you will have acces to each district.. -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 15:34, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm not talking about the ground districts, I'm talking about the towers and buildings that sit on the outer walls of the city. Arshay Duskbrow
Because the districts are almost the entire city, I dont tkink we have to complain =) -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 10:40, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes, even an old game such as "Fable" had buildings that you could enter and explore. (Jaxx Hammer)--166.250.98.180 23:06, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Proper map I glued together: http://img816.imageshack.us/i/drmapbig.jpg/ Biz 13:23, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Nice work Biz ;) which video's did you use? because I can hardly find any video's of the demo :( Dilum2444 14:11, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
It was from here: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gc-10-guild-wars-2/703348. This is part 5 of 9 videos with decent quality, albeit still camera off the screen where Anet staff go trough the demo for human and charr. You can find a lot of Non official off screen camera videos in this thread here: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/this-gamescom-compilation-information-streaming-t6651.html. A lot of information but not much you can actually add or even see properly. Biz 14:51, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks for the map! I'm a bit disturbed though... where's the Canthan district? Did it fall into The Gaping Hole of Doom? :( User ColdEden sig.gif ColdEden 15:10, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Well... Ossan or [オッサン] is Japanese for Geezer... so... Ossan district is probably the "Canthan District" - as it was named by fans. Biz 17:07, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Or... it could be Kournan district after Ossa Clan... which is more likley... Biz 17:53, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
I think there was a post on GW2 Guru from a person who played GW2 that said that the Eastern Commons is the Canthan District. Not 100% on that though. - Giant Nuker 22:09, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Well that's what I was gonna point out, that there seemed to be obvious Krytan, Elonan, and Ascalonian areas, but seemed to be missing the Canthan Area. Also, is Sama District listed as "Home" because the player chose that as his heritage in his personal setup or is Sama District always your instanced area? I was under the impression we would be able to chose our background as a Human i.e. Canthan, Elonan, etc.(Usaf1a8xx 16:11, 23 August 2010 (UTC))
That feature wasn't in the demo and may have been removed - sadly. Hope it wasn't... -- Konig/talk 07:58, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
As for myself, I had been assuming that heritage would have some effect on appearance customization, which was completely omitted from the demo. That being the case, heritage might have been temporarily left out for the same reasons. Arshay Duskbrow 08:03, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Wasn't heritage replaced by social state (rich, commoner, poor)? thought i read that somewhere but I don't recall where.--Sierra84.196.119.34 08:28, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Charr have their Leigon, Sylvari have their Season, Asuran have their College, and Humans have Heritage unless someone has documentation that it has changed. (Usaf1a8xx 14:54, 24 August 2010 (UTC))
kinda looks like the imperial city from oblivion --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.81.24.86 (talk).
Should we add article about streets ? There are many npcs taverns and so on like here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8At9klI6-s --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Sidevar (talk).

NYC

does this remind anyone else of New York City? :P --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Sir green ranger (talk).

Not really... NYC is on an island with a grid of streets and buildings. Divinity's Reach is much more reminiscent of Midgar from FF7; a large circular city divided up into separate sectors by gates, with the rich and powerful rulers in the center in a large, lavish building. Plus, underneath Midgar is the slums with the poor, while underneath Divinity's Reach is a large crypt full of the bones of the dead.
The fantasy setting and the turrets and buildings around the outer walls of the city remind me of Lindblum FF9; see: http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/7/79/Lindblum.jpg and http://grubstreethack.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/lindblum.jpg 69.140.60.63 04:02, 13 October 2011 (UTC)NaruDK
Uh, sure, they are similiar, but I find it too hard to believe that ArenaNet devs would ever be inspired by Final Fantasy like that. So yeah, it can remind something... Mediggo 07:26, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
Definitely not. It's more like Imperial City in TES 4 for me. User:Glastium Glastium | talk 19:59, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
I was just about to post that Glastium, got an edit conflict and everything. [1] - Giant Nuker 20:00, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
LOL. I swear I didn't read your mind :) But like all constructions in TES, they're too orthodox to put in a steampunk themed MMO. We can use more IMAGINATION. User:Glastium Glastium | talk 20:03, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
It's kind of cool to think of the Imperial City in TES4, Divinity's Reach, and Midgar as spiritually the same city, but in different points of time in human/sentient civilization.(Even if these three cities are part of three totally different universes.) I wonder if there are any real cities, historical or modern, that have this circular layout with divided sectors. Perhaps if there is one, it was the inspiration for Midgar, the Imperial City, and Divinity's Reach. Anyone know if there is one? 69.140.60.63 03:30, 14 October 2011 (UTC) NaruDK
