Wasn't it 252 years ago, if it took place when NF came out?--70.71.240.170 23:34, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

253 years actually, but it is an approximation date, as the time of when GW2 will actually take place is unknown to us, we were told 250 years, but it could be 245 or 264 or whatever. Just approximation dates. -- Konig Des Todes 02:12, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Just hanging this in the open, but could what Dhuum stood for, possibly have influenced (Lore wise), the lack of ressurection, so something could have happened in the 250 year gaps within the underworld itself? 90.200.54.245 23:15, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

I don't think so myself. Reasoning: Dhuum did not allow the existance of the Undead, correct? Who is Zitahns army primarily made up of? Undead as I understand it. And Palwa Joko? Also undead. So I think it is safe to assume that at least that element (existance of undead) is unchanged by Dhuum.

Maybe in another campaign we team up with dhuum and go kick Palwa Joko's ass. He would be a pretty cool ally to own some undead with. Vald [Citation Needed] User Valdimir newsigicon.png 13:23, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Halloween[edit]

Should the stuff about Dhuum be copied from the GW1 wiki to this page? Paddymew 10:58, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

I think we should wait... wait until we know the outcome of the up and coming Dhuum battle. After that, we'll even know if we should keep or delete, as what happens there, will affect what - if anything - he does, and what his status is, in GW2's time. I.e., if he is killed -> delete. If he is put to sleep -> update. -- Konig/talk 12:56, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
Regardless of how it turns out, I don't think this article should be deleted. Dhuum is a significant historical figure, like gw1:Abaddon. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 03:06, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
But they still only deal with GW1... Unless we find out otherwise in the future. If we're going to keep all the significant historical figures, we might as well add Odran, King Doric, Turai, Shiro, etc. to GW2W. And by doing all that, there becomes a lack in a reason to have a second site. In my opinion, if they don't have major influence of events after GW1 (i.e., in GW2 or the three books), they don't need an article on this wiki. Unless, of course, it is from GW2 lore (i.e., new figures in Asuran, Charr, or Norn history). -- Konig/talk 06:20, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Well, anyways, it seems we just beat him into submission, based on this and this image. So yes, add the information (but not in the same style - the gw1 article needs to be rewritten, imo, looks very messy). -- Konig/talk 08:20, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Question[edit]

Just curious; let's say that Dhuum is destroyed/killed/no longer exists before Guild Wars 2. Would it still be relevant to the GW2W to have a page dedicated to him? Sinny | talk 08:15, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

even then it depends on what he actually did if what he did still has an impact of GW2 then yes i think the page should excist. Fox007 User:Fox007 10:02, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Being part of lore this article should be kept imo. No matter whether it has impact on GW2 or not. User Dave1 Dan signature.jpg talk 17:32, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Well if there is no effect on GW2 or the books based after GW1 - there is this article to cover the lore. Having two articles of the same thing when there is inter-wiki linking, is honestly pointless. I'd rather just prevent repetition and un-necessities. -- Konig/talk 21:28, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Dhuum is still alive (if dormant), and he is still a God, and in my view, a living God is notable to warrant its own wiki page. I would personally be very surprised if he didn't have a role to play in GW2, too. --94.171.77.82 21:46, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Thread res! I personally think Dhuum will take back his place as god of death, since he is stronger then Grenth (unable to kill him) and then grenths prison (broke free) and we are stupid enough to start farming UW just to release Dhuum and bring him to sleep again, in which we a lot of times fail.--Markisbeest 11:34, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
There is no threads on the wiki - or resing. Anyways: Events in lore occur one time and have the same outcome in GW1. If you don't fight Dhuum, or if you lose against him, he still breaks free and then is put to sleep by the Reapers. Just as if you never fought Shiro, the events of Factions would still occur. Personally, I doubt Dhuum will return at all. And with nothing to imply Dhuum returns to GW2, I see no reason why this page exists. -- Konig/talk 17:43, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Seriously? There is a dormant god that we have no reason to assume is dead at the time of GW2 (I believe Tethercat principle applies) and you don't see why the article exists? GWW had an article on Dhuum long before we knew he was going to appear in-game. --Santax (talk · contribs) 21:14, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
Nothing says he influences GW2 at all, hence why I don't see why he has an article here. For all we know, he may still be alive, but he may never wake up and his forces may be defeated with him being sent back to sleep. He (indirectly) affected GW1, and has since Prophecies, but has yet to show a hint of influence on GW2. We'd know better after the game releases though, which is why I haven't added a deletion tag. -- Konig/talk 21:17, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
Guildmag showed a couple pictures attached to their demo review, among them was this. It's labeled as Zhaitan's General but definitely looks like dhumm. Not sure if its just another misinterpretation though. Ptarmigan 19:57, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
As I said here, it is not Dhuum - just looks a lot like him. I went into further explanation on Guru2 when it was brought up - the clothes and color is like him, but Dhuum is skeletal, this guy is not. -- Konig/talk 19:58, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
Yea, you have a point. But who knows, 250 years might have been enough for him to regain more of his power if the UW war didn't end in Grenth's favor, which might have altered his appearance/been changed by Anet just to make things new. Ptarmigan 20:04, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
I think the humans would know if one of their gods died, truth be told, especially human necromancers. -- Konig/talk 23:51, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
Nah, not with the silence of the gods and all, besides every necromancer is secretly aligned with Dhuum.--Markisbeest 10:30, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) ...I just read the article and there's no mention that he's going to have any involvement in GW2. And as per discussion, we are in consensus that the previous sentence is correct. I'm going to put up a deletion tag for two reasons. One - obvious. Two, if he does make a return, we can just re-create it. Speculation and waste of space otherwise. -Xu Davella 22:39, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

No Cost?[edit]

Dhuum, although inactive, still wielded the powers of the god of death, and Grenth's policy of allowing creatures to continue life after they had shed their mortal coil did not come without a cost. Oh snap, Grenth broken his policy. --Miteshu 19:25, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but where's the "broken policy" at? That line refers to resurrection and undead. Undead still exists in GW2. Resurrection is questionable as we've only see mechanical resurrection in GW2. Edit: Though interesting fact: That line is worded incorrectly. As it is worded, it means that there was a cost. Not without a cost. Misread it, actually - kind of, as when you add the full paragraph, it is not talking about resurrection and undead. What it is referring to is the fact that deaths in the Underworld empower Dhuum, however that is unrelated to allowing resurrection and undead. So the paragraph is completely off. -- Konig/talk 07:21, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
I thought it was inferring that Dhuum couldn't be killed because of Grenth's policy. I mean, you'd think if he wanted Dhuum dead (and if he couldn't do it himself) he could ask the other gods to help out, and easily destroy him while he's dormant. However, it's hard to say, and it may also have to do with the same issue as when killing Abaddon; the power has to go somewhere. (Then again, Grenth now has the power of death...I'm confused.) -- ķ̌yǾshĺ User Kyoshi sig.png 03:28, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
If that is what was meant, then it is speculation and should of been removed anyways. -- Konig/talk 04:22, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Deletion[edit]

I agree with Xu in that this page is better suited to inter-wiki linking. Most of the stuff we state here is also available on the GWW and I see no reason to have this here when it is all available there. (Similar to Abaddon.) Aqua (T|C) 00:40, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

With the exception of "we don't know the outcome" there is nothing here that's not stated on the gww I do believe. I support deletion until/unless there is confirmation he will deal with GW2 in some form. -- Konig/talk 01:34, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
It is now completely unlinked to. Aqua (T|C) 02:03, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Appearance in Guild Wars 2[edit]

As we all know, Dhuum was the god of the Death until Grenth took his place by defeating him. So actualy, Dhuum may be the new undead god allready, as the human don't have a bond to their gods now. As we allready know, in Guild Wars 1 Dhuum actualy escaped from his prison, but the player stopped him from that (because Dhuum collected strength to breack the prison). Now, he isn't defeated again, but prisoned. So what about this theory: nowdays (guild wars 2), dhuum has enough power to breake the prison once again and now without the help of any Humans, Grenth is not able to keep Dhuum in his Prison (or another way: Grenth just let him out because of the recent events with Zhaitan). Now, Dhuums policity was (guildwiki1): "Dhuum tolerated neither resurrections nor the existence of the undead, and he hunted down all those who cheated death, having promised "death undeniable.". So i actualy think, he may come back with an update or even in a DLC, because Zhaitan would be his mayor enemy, even if grenth may tolerate necromancy. Otherwise, Zhaitan is dead, but his undead are still alive and just think about: wheter or not Dhuum may fight Zhaitan, he actualy is only in prison, waiting for the day he can break his prison again to rule the underworld again. --217.254.41.200 21:15, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

The fact that "resurrection" and "death" have been removed from the game for players could point to that (or it could be simply that not havng death could give them better ratings or not get them in trouble with censorship in countries like germany and australia). Any instance of "Resurrection" and "Death" referring to players has been removed. There's a few remnants like the /death command or the skill [Resurrect] one can see in the combat log when reviving NPCs. But those are remnants from before they did the change. So it could be one of two things:
  • Grenth was actively allowing resurrections, and they no longer work because he's gone
  • Dhuum actively prevented resurrections and they no longer work because he's back.
I think #2 would be the most interesting for the story. I'd like to see the Blood Prince getting in cahoots with Dhuum to take out his dad, as Dhuum had similar skeleton armies.. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 08:47, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
I would also love to see some stories or action concerning the gods, be it the return of Dhuum or telling about what Kormir has done in 250 years. Since this game has come out, though, there has been no move to tell much of these stories beyond the fleshing out human lore. And with the focus consistently being on the elder dragons and their effects on all races, developing Dhuum as a part of GW2 seems unlikely.
All this said:
  • The page adds no unique details to Dhuum - in fact it's far inferior to the GW1 article.
  • The advantage of wiki links is that they can give the reader the relevant information that they seek.
  • Dhuum holds no relevancy beyond lore to GW2, so let's interwiki link to the lore (or flesh it out here).
