This spirit needs a talk page. After all, it is the most important Norn deity. Cress Arvein 03:48, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Bear form[edit]
Shouldn't we put in here that it's the bear spirit that grants the Norn their bear form ?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mashaiasu (talk • contribs).
- We don't know if that's truth, or just an urban legend - so to speak. It might just be what the Norn believe. But that should be added. -- Konig/talk 23:15, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Actually we do know it, from Blood Washes Blood. Ramei Arashi 16:35, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- No, actually we're told that's the case during the norn arc. However, we were also told that the gods brought the forgotten to the world, that glint is the first creature made by the gods, that the gods created Tyria, and so forth. The last was already disproven, the second and first are both increasingly likely to be false, and we know that there were at least three races (dwarves, seers, mursaat) that predate humanity and the gods. If the gods lied so much, why wouldn't spirits? Perhaps there is no connection between the spirits and the forms, aside from what animal it is, and the norn just believe that the spirits is the reason they can transform. I.e., it's just another form of magic and the spirits take the credit. -- Konig/talk 19:31, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- We know the norn get bear form from a spirit because we actually meet Bear in Blood Washes Blood. The rest is Anet contradicting itself. They tell us Glint is oldest creator on Tyria, the first dragon, then create a new game and say it isn't so. Ramei Arashi 01:32, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- Lol I'm going to let Konig fully correct you, since he knows significantly more than I do on this matter, but I will say this: ANet isn't "contradicting themselves", but rather making the story deeper by adding the possibility that some of these "high deities" whose words were taken as truth may in fact have been lying or hiding something from us. It brings about a twist in the storyline, creating the thought of "what else has [insert character here] said that may have been a lie?". :D --Amannelle 01:49, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- ...Wait, so glint was making it up as she went along?!? Ooooohhh...I KNEW that Prophesy business was fishy...tuna-ish to be precise... Zolann The Irreverent 02:05, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- As I said, we're told that the spirits grant the forms. We never see Bear Spirit going "I'm casting "Ability to use Bear Form" on Jora!" or anything of the like. Magic existed before the gods, if anything, the spirits just taught the norn how to transform. Its not like the animal forms are unique - humans have the avatar forms which are, more or less, the same thing. And like any magic, it isn't directly linked to any deity (it is just attributed to the deity/ies via the group(s) that worship said deities). And as I said elsewhere, it isn't contradiction but rather ret-coning and how they are doing it is via saying "humans were wrong, what they thought is wrong" (or if you want to be more blunt "you were lied to") - they ret-con'ed one thing before: Abaddon. And in that it was "you didn't know of it because the information was removed." -- Konig/talk 01:34, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's the word I couldn't think of. Ret-coning. :) Thanks, Konig! --Amannelle 01:50, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- So.. add a bit saying the norn believe the bear spirit grants them the ability to shift into a bear, or not? Thering 13:37, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
- It is not just a belief, we did see Bear restore Jora's ability to transform. Of course we didn't hear Bear say anything, its a bear, they don't talk. Ramei Arashi 06:41, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
