Head Researcher Levvi: I've shown you the evidence. My conclusions are inescapable. Why won't you listen to me?

Magnus the Bloody-Handed: I have listened. In fact, I’m sick of listening to you. The council has already ruled on this.

Magnus the Bloody-Handed: We're not shutting down the world's busiest port because a machine spat out some numbers that made your ears twitch.

Magnus the Bloody-Handed: When Lion's Arch is in real danger, the Lionguard will respond. Until then, sling your hook and shove off!

*Levvi walks back to her krewe's station.*

Head Researcher Levvi: Big surprise: Magnus still won't act. He and his precious council only care about commerce.

Head Researcher Levvi: He won't listen until those readings we've been taking manifest as something he can hit.

Researcher Farrowyn: By then it may be too late. Thorns! What do we do?

Head Researcher Levvi: We keep researching. Something's coming, something big, and someone has to prepare for it.

Was there something you needed? I've got a lot to contend with right now. Research, politics, the price of magistatic fuses... There's a cavalcade of concerns in my cranium.

My team and I are studying oceanographic trends and biotheric wave patterns. Our data points to something big and bad about to happen.

Wait...what kind of wave patterns?

Biotherics is a field of study I am currently pushing to its limits. It measures the energy generated by a living creature. We're seeing some big, big waves.

What do you think it means?

I can't say just yet. But between these larger-than-life readings, the shipwrecks, and all the stuff washing up on the shore—whales and whatnot—I think it's worth a depper look.

Believe me, I tried. I can't even get into their supersecret chambers to address them. Magnus thinks I'm just a crank...which is okay, because I think he's just an oaf.

You did, because it is. I've got biotheric readings that are off the charts. That means something's out there, something big. And it's getting closer.

It's only a krewe in an unofficial sense. I chose the members of my team based on their skill sets, not on what college they attended or how big their parents' ears were.

During Phase 1

I was right about the karka, but I never thought being right could feel so bad. The only thing that will make me feel better is fixing this mess...and then rubbing Magnus's nose in my success.

After Phase 1 initial invasion

Head Researcher Levvi: Well, Magnus. I hate saying I told you so... Actually I love saying it to you, just not this time. Anyway: I told you so!

Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Do you have anything constructive to say or are you just going to stand there spewing bilge water?

Head Researcher Levvi: Well, based on its shell, I've named the creature Levvi's Leviathanus Carcinus, and...

Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Fine. Inspector Kiel! Work with this asura to find out what has these "karka" creatures so riled up and put a stop to it. Permanently.

Inspector Ellen Kiel: Aye, Captain Magnus, sir! Any idea where I should start looking?

Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Look around, Inspector. Pick a shell and start kicking. The Lionguard is at your disposal. I have to go explain all this to the Ship's Council.

During Phase 2

Inspector Ellen Kiel: Take aim...and fire!

*Trebuchet fires the solvent at the Ancient Karka, which is right near the trebuchet. It gets covered in the solvent, turns, and runs away.*

Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Bear's fuzzy backside, it worked! Turned that beastie's shell into mush right before our eyes.

Head Researcher Levvi: Don't sound so surprised. With proper research and planning, results like this come naturally.

Magnus the Bloody-Handed: I'm not surprised, you bitter little pill, I'm elated. The karka's gone, scuttled off to who knows where, and now we know how to fight it.

Inspector Ellen Kiel: Actually, sir, I think I know exactly where it went. Canach! Get over here and start sharing.

Inspector Ellen Kiel: This sylvari has information on how this karka mess began. Start talking, Canach.

Canach: Very well. Weeks ago, I sent an expedition to an unknown island to the south. They were to ready an asura gate as part of the Consortium's development plans.

Canach: My team never returned. The gate remains inactive, and wreckage from their ship started washing up not long before the karka attacks began.

Inspector Ellen Kiel: We think whatever Canach's crew did on that island provoked the karka. They struck back at the nearest possible target: us.

Magnus the Bloody-Handed: You lost a ship and its entire crew weeks ago? And you're just telling us about it now? Your little secret put the entire city at risk.

Subdirector Blingg: If I may, Captain: Canach works for the Consortium, not the city. He is contractually bound by our most comprehensive nondisclosure agreement.

Subdirector Blingg: The Consortium has to protect its investments at every stage of development. It's a matter of commerce, I'm sure you understand.

Magnus the Bloody-Handed: This intrigue can wait. What I want now is a detail sent after that karka. Track it back to its lair and kill it while it's licking its wounds.

Subdirector Blingg: That island is private property. I cannot sign off on any military endeavor unless it includes a Consortium representative.

Head Researcher Levvi: You'll need me and my krewe, too. Nobody knows more about the karka than we do.

Magnus the Bloody-Handed: Kiel! As long as you kill that thing and prevent any future attacks, you can bring along as many of these idiots as you like. We'll sort out blame and punishment later.

Inspector Ellen Kiel: Understood. Lionguard! Squad formation. Board the ships and get ready to fight. This time, we're on the offensive.

During Wintersday and Flame and Frost

Sorry to be abrupt, but I have several lifetimes of research here, and only one life. Even without karka, this place is a treasure trove of flora and fauna.

Isn't it dangerous?

Sure, but the potential knowledge here is worth the risk. Besides, the Lionguard's here, and–thanks to me–they know how to handle karka.

I have several lifetimes of research here, but only one life. Even aside from the karka, this place is a treasure trove of rare flora and unique, if increasingly belligerent, fauna.

What do you mean, "increasingly belligerent fauna?"

Something is riling up the native wildlife. To figure out what, I need samples of local environmental anomalies. The more volunteers I get, the faster I get answers.

During Last Stand at Southsun

I was right: the adrenal response of local wildlife has been tampered with. I just wish I felt happier about being right. We'll be trying to reverse the ecological effects here for a long time.

What can be done about the wildlife here?

I'm afraid those poor, crazed creatures are a menace to everyone on the island. I hate to say it, but we need to put them down. It's not my preferred solution, but lives are at stake.
