Property talk:Has armor type

The pages don't even exist. Are we fixed on using the TP subcategories instead of "Head" and "Head Armor" on the equipment window? I guess it makes sense for queries and the TP to use the same semantics.--Relyk ~ talk > 04:18, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

The only ones that differ are (Aquatic) Headgear/(Aquatic) Helm and Chest/Coat - Shoulders, Gloves, Leggings, and Boots are all the same. Coat fits better with those four in terms of describing the clothing worn on that part of the body, instead of describing the part of the body itself, and that's why I chose to use the TP terms when I set this up. Also, most people aren't going to notice the tooltips on the Hero panel because they'll always have armor equipped (with the obvious exception of ERPers, but we pretend they don't exist).

Yes, we need to either create pages for these terms, or we convert this to a string property. Honestly, I don't see much use for it as a page property, and there's very little info we could put on those pages anyway, so I'll just go ahead and convert it to string. —Dr Ishmael 15:00, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Oh yeah, I forgot about the armor type noted in the item tooltips: Head/Shoulder/Chest/Hand/Leg/Foot Armor (aquatic helms don't have anything special, they just say Head Armor). I suppose we could call these more "official" since they're directly on the items themselves, but I just don't like them. —Dr Ishmael 15:08, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Triggered by has skin type, I would like to get the values changed to the official names. The current ones are rather random collected from names individual items can have. E.g. helm is a very heavy armor specific term, while leggings is usually light or medium but certainly does not apply to skirts.

While documenting a skin set, I had to look these names up 4 times (4 out of 5!), just to get the correct one. They seem arbitrarily chosen and have little relevance to the offical names you can see when hovering over an item.

Unfortunately, there is also a second set of official names which you can see when hovering over an (empty) slot in the hero panel. These slot names are “headgear”, “shoulders”, “chest”, “gloves”, “leggings”, “boots” and “aquatic headgear”.

I would still prefer the first set because they seem to be the most generic ones and are visible on every item, so documentation is easy. poke | talk 01:48, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

They are arbitrary to normal players and as such most of our visitors. The API is known to expose some internal names of things that are no longer visible in the game at all. poke | talk 03:22, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

As has already been noted, we have 4 sources of armor type names: item tooltips, slot tooltips, trading post search, and API. The slot tooltips, TP, and API all agree on the names for shoulders, gloves, leggings, and boots; they only have minor disagreements on chest/coat and headgear/helm. Item tooltips are completely unique. To me, that indicates that the item tooltips are the ones we should avoid, because nothing else uses those terms. —Dr Ishmael 03:31, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

I think it's pretty obvious that the item tooltips are the worst choice to use for the wiki's terminology, when all of the other sources agree (with only 2 exceptions: slot tooltips "Headgear" and "Chest"). —Dr Ishmael 18:42, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
