Markissios

The markissios was a title used by the ruler from the quaggan royal family that lived in the southern quaggan kingdom in the Unending Ocean. Fifty years ago, circa 1272 AE, the krait invaded old quaggan territory; the hylek have suggested that the krait did not do so by choice, however. According to quaggan tales, the krait either killed, ate or enslaved the markissios and the royal family as well as the quaggan god Mellaggan, leaving the southern quaggans leaderless. The loss of the markissios shifted the responsibility of rulership to the varonos of various scattered quaggan communities.
