Lord Vanquish is the main villain within Super Adventure Box. He is first seen in the World 1 Zone 1 introductory cutscene where he swoops in, gloats, then proceeds to kidnap Princess Miya.

• Lord Vanquish, and the kidnapping of the princess, is a reference to the antagonist Bowser in the Mario series.
• During the cutscene depicting the princess's kidnapping, Lord Vanquish can be seen wielding Flaming Swordchucks. This might be a reference to 8-Bit Theater by nuklearpower.
• Lord Vanquish's name may be a reference to the "hard mode" version of Guild Wars—vanquishing.
• Lord Vanquish appears in the prologue in the SUPER ADVENTURE BOX: THE OFFICIAL NOVEL where he is shown conquering Storm Top and forcing the Storm Wizard to swear fealty to him.
• Ambient dialogue during the festival refers to Lord Vanquish as 'he' while SUPER ADVENTURE BOX: THE OFFICIAL NOVEL uses the pronoun 'they.'
• Lord Vanquish's appearance may be a tribute to Moto's former krewemate Ketto.
