Being cut off like this is causing us a lot of hardship. The village is in disrepair, the Awakened need help, dissent is a problem, and Zuri's busy causing trouble. Purity needs able bodies!

Enemy? Of course not! The Awakened work hard for us as long as Foreman Ute keeps them patched up. Actually, Kennelmaster Jalil's drakehounds have recently tracked some hostile ones ask—him about it.

If you came from the north, you probably ran into some of them. They've been exiled from the empire. On this side of the wall, King Joko has always protected us. Well, until recently...

What's changed?

I've lived here all my life, and I'd always felt safe. But now people are getting sick, we don't have enough workers...and I swear I'm being watched. Things just don't feel right.

How are villagers getting sick? Can it be stopped?

We've had saboteurs trying to poison the scarecrows in the fields. No idea why. But if we don't stop them, the poisoned crops make villagers ill, or worse. People have died.

Keep it—down an informant could hear you. Now, the clanmarshal knows we all love King Joko here in Purity, yet some of the Awakened have turned on us lately. And anybody who speaks out gets exiled.
