Janin is an Unchained Risen protecting an Orrian relic in the ruins of Old Kaineng. She used to be a Purist agent who had infiltrated the Aetherblades in order to use them to locate the relic for her master, the White Falcon.
Biography[edit]
Before becoming a Risen, Janin was a high-ranking Purist necromancer[1] with the codename Red Orchid who was tasked by the Purist ringleader called the White Falcon to monitor the situation in the ruins of Old Kaineng and find the source of corruption so it could be used to direct the Unchained against New Kaineng City and thus destabilize Empress Ihn's regime.[2][3] She was lover to Gakkai, and a close friend to Mal-Chin, both of whom were powerful Purist lieutenants.[4]
Janin learned of an Orrian relic in a cave, which she believed might help the Purists. Posing as a lost, scared woman in the ruins, she infiltrated the Aetherblades and gave information of this relic to Ankka in an attempt to use them to extract it for her.[5][6] Janin's plan went smoothly at first; however, her natural distaste for her "fellow" Aetherblades eventually aroused suspicion in at least one Aetherblade, who forwarded some of Janin's journal pages to Ankka discreetly.[7] Upon realizing that Janin had ulterior motives and had planned to flee with the relic and potentially dispose of the Aetherblades once they had outlived their usefulness,[6][8] Ankka arranged a meeting to "personally thank" Janin, at which Janin was either killed and left to the corruption in the ruins or possibly just corrupted by Ankka herself as she was experimenting with her new harbinger powers derived from the Elder Dragon Zhaitan's magic.[9]
What was left of Janin was discovered later by Detective Aimi as she tried to find why Risen activity was on the rise in 1845 CC (1335 AE). Janin, having been turned into an Unchained Risen, attacked Aimi and her assistants while declaring that they were ignorant and that they would feed the nest. Aimi's party ultimately slew Janin although the encounter left them with more questions than answers about what the reason for the increased Risen activity was.[10]
