Instructions[edit]
- Take high quality ingame screenshots of the world map (settings on max), -bmp command line. Stitch the files together in software like GIMP. [A] Tips:
- Standing in another zone will prevent event circles/commander+mentor tags etc. Make sure you stand in one with a matching set of map completion objectives (e.g. don't stand in a GH if you're taking a screenshot of a zone with Vistas)
- You can take a screenshot, then click in a corner of the screen and drag to another corner - this way they tile perfectly when you paste them.
- You can hide the UI using CTRL+H, then open the world map.
- Use Widget:Zone map v3 to get a screenshot of the API map boundaries. Paste it into GIMP. Scale image to 117% to match the ingame screenshot size (API render it at 83%). [B]
- Use the developer tools in firefox to expand the map element size to fit the entire zone/city/etc.
- Use the screenshot right click tool in firefox to take a screenshot of the entire page, including beyond the visible screen.
- Put [A] and [B] on the different layers of the same image, align them carefully using layer blend mode "Difference", then crop the canvas. Export the API image [C] and ingame image [D] in PNG format.
- Open Inkscape, confirm preference settings for DPI image import, export and create are all 96 DPI to avoid blurring images.
- Create a new file in Inkscape. Drag the [C] API image into Inkscape. Do CTRL+LEFT_SHIFT+D and select fit canvas to drawing.
- Create a new layer and draw the borders on with the Straight Line tool. You want a 7 px wide white line with round joints. Use the snapping options to join your shapes together neatly.
- When done, save the SVG [D].
- Export the SVG [D] with all layers showing to a PNG file with borders on [E]. Tidy up the image in GIMP if required (e.g. shapes/text overlapping with the sector boundaries). You can then cut this up in other software, e.g. PAINT.NET, to create area maps.
- Back in Inkscape, hide the base map layer, select all lines, and colour them black.
- Make a copy of the SVG [E]. In the copy, delete the hidden layers - the SVG should now be a really tiny file. For each area, double the width of the line and fill the shape in red, then save it as a new locator SVG.
- Upload the results with Widget:Editing robot.
