— Gaerta Whitebear
Gaerta Whitebear, Bane of Lies is a norn enchantress and the slayer of the Fleshreaver Tytus. She is currently off on an adventure somewhere in the Shiverpeak Mountains.[1][2] She is the wife of Knut Whitebear and mother of Skarti Knutsson and Sigfast. Eir Stegalkin has carved a statue in Gaerta's honor, and it can be found in Stonewright's Steading.
Biography[edit]
Gaerta is a childhood friend of Raghild with whom she had many adventures and whom she saved many times. She could always fight her way out of trouble.[1] A powerful enchantress, she gained fame by slaying the Fleshreaver Lord Tytus, and earned the title Bane of Lies.
At some point Gaerta and Knut Whitebear fell in love, and they became mates. She gave birth to their two sons: Skarti Knutsson and Sigfast. However, Gaerta's wanderlust had always been stronger than the need to sit in a lodge, so she continued seeking new challenges, maybe even a few more scars, in the Shiverpeak Mountains in her later years. She left Knut to raise their sons because her wanderings to build her legend took her away from Hoelbrak for lengthy periods of time.[2] The couple's years together, and Gaerta's hunts away from home, did not diminish Knut's passion for his wife even when other norn women desired him for his qualities as a strong hunter.[3]
Eir Stegalkin eventually carved a statue in Gaerta's honor, placing it at Stonewright's Steading. Gaerta was absent during the Great Hunt of 1325 AE and thus missed out on the Slayer's victory over the great wurm Issormir.[2]
