Category talk:Pages with broken file links
Does this refer to the red link that doesn't exist? 93.142.177.31 09:57, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- It can be for all sorts of reasons, some NPCs are here because there is no image for them, other entries may be more significant. --Claret (talk) 11:05, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, any redlink to the File: namespace will apply this category. —Dr Ishmael 12:34, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
Customization of query[edit]
Is there a way to look at this page while removing all the User pages and talk pages? I imagine I could just ignore them and what not, but it would be nice to know if, and how, this is possible for any future queries of the sort. -Darqam (talk) 17:10, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
- This category is one of the useless mediawiki ones. However since you asked:
{{#dpl: | category = Pages with broken file links | namespace = | count = 500 | offset = 0 }}
-Chieftain Alex 17:48, 24 March 2016 (UTC)- Awesome, thanks. I'm aware this isn't the most useful category page, but I've wanted to do this on other pages as well so I figured I'd ask here :D. Many thanks. At some point I need to figure out this dpl query business.... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Darqam (talk • contribs) at 17:50, 24 March 2016 (UTC).
I am Skritt[edit]
This is my Shiniest Shiny. I shall live here happily among the shinies until they are no more because I have uploaded their picture and this category is empty(more or less). *___* - Doodleplex 22:29, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
- Optional, but I've devised a spreadsheet with the pages split by location and context: google drive link. I've begun by going through historical skills and replacing their icons with File:Skill.png, and I've added locations to pages which had them missing. I think this should make it "easier" to target subsets of data. -Chieftain Alex 20:59, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Updating historical pages is the definition of busywork.--Relyk ~ talk < 21:27, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah well the bot did it so it took less than a minute to remove 50 pages from the stack. -Chieftain Alex 21:59, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- The templates should be handling that, those skill pages had icons so replacing them with Skill.png is wrong, and you didn't note the changes on bots page, but whatever.--Relyk ~ talk < 22:27, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Templates can't handle it - if they did there wouldn't be links to the location to upload files at, which is not user friendly. If they didn't get the icons added while they were current, there is proabably feck all chance of the icon being uploaded now- this way just clears it off the to-do list. Noting stuff on the bot page is a good idea. -Chieftain Alex 00:45, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- Why would you conclude that? There's no black magic. You can link to the location yourself
[{{fullurl:Special:Upload|wpDestFile={{PAGENAME}}.jpg}} Upload file]
(Upload file). Or link to [[Form:Multiupload]] instead to be more friendly than Special:Upload. Or embed a semantic form like{{Special:RunQuery/Multiupload}}
directly in the infobox. Or you can have the template assign historical skills with File:Skill.png if they're missing the icon. Anything over manually running a bot to add redundant parameters to a template that abuse the template usage...--Relyk ~ talk < 02:32, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Triumph?[edit]
Some months ago on reddit, someone posted a link to this awful list with a wistful "maybe someday...", which got me interested. I think it hit 4300+ articles with dead links. Today, it's nearly half its size, and it provides me an awful distraction with getting anything done XD So, a thank-you to whoever you were, and everyone else combatting red-links. SarielV 22:42, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
- Approximately a year later, the list sits at around 600 links, a lot of which can't be fixed because they are player pages with bad code or missing user images. This war is nearly done. SarielV 16:16, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- Many can still be fixed, the battle is never over! just wait for next release, it will sky rocket again-Darqam 16:29, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- Darqam is right, many can be fixed as user pages are the minority and I believe the majority now is event foes. - Doodleplex 16:58, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

Is this working right?[edit]
I'm going through some of these, and while most don't have images, as intended, some very much do, or don't have a broken file link at all. example: Bag of Coffee Beans, Barrier, Cosmetic Aura. Is this list only generated every once in awhile? Am I just blind and can't find the missing file link?--Rain Spell (talk) 21:47, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
- Sometimes the page has a link for something that originally didn't have a missing image, but now does and the cache simply hasn't updated itself. Saving the page without changing anything(ie a NULL edit) will fix it. - Doodleplex 21:49, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
- It's a horrible automatic category, ignore it! -Chieftain Alex 22:15, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
