Search results are more effective[edit]
Out of the 474 current Disambiguation articles, is the plan to delete any and all where "Search results are more effective" as was done with both [[Rain]] and [[Lightning]]? ~ 1Maven (talk) 18:21, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
- Those examples were generic terms that would very rarely ever be confused with each other. Which pages do you feel are similar cases to those?
- Most of the disambiguation pages follow these patterns:
- Fire includes skills that are named Fire. Not every page with "fire" in the name, like Fire Shield or Ring of Fire, should be included.
- Core includes the rare materials that follow the same naming patterns. Imperator's Core isn't likely to be the target page.
- DE lists the only relevant abbreviations for the letters. Including Drake Egg would be excessive and just adds clutter. —Mora 18:40, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
- There are two main considerations with a disambiguation page**:
- Will it be more useful than Special:Search?
- Rain and Lightning were less useful because at least with search, you get a small excerpt of text from the article.
- Ambrite is more useful because it clearly states the difference between the different pages.
- Is there one prominent page that should be redirected to instead? (All pages get a {{otheruses}} hatnote so readers can still find the others.)
- Ashford should probably be redirected to the zone because that's by far the most likely intent of readers these days. The NPC was only prominent for a couple LW episodes two years ago.
- Aquatic should be kept as disambiguation because there's no clear "winner" as for which segment of underwater info the user intended to find.
- Will it be more useful than Special:Search?
- ** When it's not for identically-named pages, anyway; that case requires different considerations.
