Burden of Choice is a hidden Anomalous Occurrences achievement that is unlocked by coming into contact with an anomalous vision.

Walkthrough

Prior to starting this achievement, it must first be unlocked by approaching and touching an anomalous vision. These spawn at random in the open world and instances, including Fractals of the Mists and raids. These are shown client-side and are otherwise non-interactive.

1	Have a close encounter with an anomalous vision.	Prior to starting this achievement, it must first be unlocked by approaching and touching an anomalous vision. These spawn at random in the open world and instances, including Fractals of the Mists and raids. These are shown client-side and are otherwise non-interactive.
2	Speak to Ogden in the Durmand Priory Headquarters.	Enter the Durmand Priory instance located in the Durmand Priory area of Lornar's Pass, near  Durmand Priory Waypoint — (see image below). Speak to Ogden, located in Steward Gixx's office in the northeast of the instance. The instance entrance is near  Priory Archives — . Approach the grate on the southwest side of the chamber, near the Heart of the Priory hero challenge, giving a prompt to enter the instance. You don't need to talk to any NPCs or be a member of the Priory. Alternatively, speak to Arcanist Timble at the start of the hallway.
3	Speak to Tranton, across the hall from Ogden.	In the Durmand Priory instance, speak to Historian Tranton located in the library across from Ogden, in the center of the instance (see image below).
4	Collect a Bloodstone Sliver from the Bloodstone Harvest achievement.	See the Bloodstone Harvest page for a detailed guide.
5	Collect a Bloodstone Sliver from the Bloodstone Harvest achievement.	See the Bloodstone Harvest page for a detailed guide.

8	Speak to Tradesman Maezz.	Found southwest of Grand Piazza. Closest waypoint is  Gate Hub Plaza Waypoint — .
9	Return to Tranton.	Speak with Historian Tranton in the Durmand Priory library once again.
10	Talk to either Tradesman Maezz or Historian Tranton.	Decide how to finish the achievement. This choice cannot be changed. Finishing the achievement in any way will permanently stop the account from receiving the anomalous visions. This cannot be reverted in any way.

Received upon gathering four of the Bloodstone Slivers required to complete the Shadowstone, and then traveling to a different map.

The Consortium Greetings, <Character name>! The Consortium has taken notice of your valiant effort to rebuild the Shadowstone! However, you are being led astray by misinformed Priory agents. The Priory is simply lacking the resources to fund its researchers and scholars. Please speak to our representative, Tradesman Maezz, before you hand over such a valuable artifact. Interactive map

Notes

• To enter the archives you can also speak to Arcanist Timble near the  Durmand Priory Waypoint — . You do not need to be on any specific story step, or be a member of the Priory to use this option.
• If you choose to talk to Historian Tranton as the last step, you will retain the Reforged Shadowstone.
• After the Commander cures their magic overdose, entering a Stable Rift will have a slight chance to trigger a side effect where they will separate from their body and turn into an anomaly that can be attacked by other players.
  • This anomaly transformation will use the character's model as a base – nude, hairless and with a different transparent skin – instead the same appearance as a Ley-Line Anomaly.
  • The new transformation will also replace the anomaly appearance when players approach the center of the Mystic Forge in Lion's Arch.
  • Players who chose to side with the Priory and used the Reforged Shadowstone will appear as anomalies with an orange hue, while players who sided with the consortium will appear with a blue hue.

Anomaly:

It is possible to complete the objectives in a different order, resulting in the acquisition of the Reforged Shadowstone before the Broken Shadowstone.

Trivia

• This achievement was introduced with the October 4, 2016 game update.
• The choice made at the end of this achievement changes the dialogue of Madame Cookie.
