Rapids is zone 1 of world 2 of Super Adventure Box. There are 11 Hidden Rooms and 38 Baubles to collect. This level mostly involves crossing rope bridges (which may collapse behind you), or by jumping on the various alligators and turtles. Near the beginning of the level, you are warned that while you can stand in still water with no penalty, flowing water is dangerous. When the player comes into contact with flowing it will be first knocked down and pushed downstream in the direction of the flow; you can walk at reduced speed against the current or dodge, but attempting to jump and landing into the flowing water will knock you down again. You can eventually flow off into the void and lose a life unless you jump out of the water, or are pushed back against land.

  • Note: This guide is for Normal mode to maximize bauble collection. In Exploration Mode the majority of this zone can be completed by using the rainbow clouds, and foes are more likely to drop food than Baubles. Exploration Mode also takes you a different path if you are simply seeking the shops and hidden rooms.

Starting Area to Checkpoint 1[edit]

Start by crossing the small stream via the wooden foot bridge, and then climb the cliff face to reach a wide waterfall that is split in two. You can walk through the right half of the waterfall to find a jumping puzzle with geyser-like water spouts to find a red bauble at the top SAB 20 Bauble Icon.png#1.

On the ground directly below the bauble is a flat stretch of land where you will find SAB 20 Bauble Icon.pngDigging Spot #1.

Return to the starting area, and begin your climb at the right of the twin waterfalls by going up a pillar of rocks. Hop back toward the solitary waterfall and proceed up the rock face. Jump back across the solitary waterfall to reach a slanted bridge—be careful to keep moving or jumping on it as the planks will fall down. Behind the wide waterfall at the third ledge is an area with a yellow bauble inside it SAB 10 Bauble Icon.png#2.

Proceed up the rock face to the left of the twin waterfalls. Go to the ledge with the turtle and hit it to cause it to flip upside, using it as a platform to get to the checkpoint.

Checkpoint 1 to Checkpoint 2[edit]

Hit the first alligator on the right and jump across his back to the rock outcrop across the stream. Hit the second alligator and hop to the round rock in the center of the stream. Now hit the three alligators and one turtle to make it across to land.

Climb the rock next to the waterfall and jump onto a ledge behind it. Follow the ledge along back towards the checkpoint gate to find a pool area. In the middle of the pool is SAB 20 Bauble Icon.png Digging Spot #2

Return to the rock pillar.

Jump up to the next level of the stream. Continue along the stream, using the two turtles to get to the platform with a blue bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#3. Use the remaining two turtles and rocks to get across the stream to a round rock where a SAB Barrel Icon.pngbarrel with Food (Super Adventure Box).jpgfood is located.

After clearing the rapids but before crossing the bridge take a left and scale the rock. Jump over the rapids to another pool area where you will find SAB 20 Bauble Icon.png Digging Spot #3.


Return to the bridge at the end of the rapids.

This is also the beginning of a series of bridges. Before crossing the bridges, get the blue bauble in front of you SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#4, then face leftward and jump across the cliff face to a small, hidden stream. Across the steam, on the rock face above you, is a tree. This is where you need to go:

  1. Jump to the far side of this smaller stream, move upstream, and jump back across.
  2. Jump up onto the yellow ledge, jump up the pile of rocks on the left.
  3. Once standing on the yellow ledges, jump across towards the aforementioned tree, aiming for the ledge between the tree and the fern.
  4. There is a pool of water here that contains SAB 20 Bauble Icon.png Digging Spot #3.
  5. Go behind the tree and jump up the rocks on the left side of the pool of water towards a fern.
  6. Now, jump along the rocks above the stream in the upstream direction (not crossing over the stream) until you come to a larger gray square insetting and throw a bomb at this wall to reveal the SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Furniture shop #1 (Master of Decor, World 2: Where the river splits).

Upon exiting the furniture shop, jump down across the stream, and jump back up the rocks to the trees. Either jump down to the turtles and rocks below or jump around the trees to get back to the bridges. Go quickly across each bridge to collect two blue baubles on the platforms between the bridges SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#5-6 and to reach the next checkpoint. The SAB Barrel Icon.pngbarrel next to Checkpoint #2 has a SAB Cloud Icon.pngspeed boost.

Checkpoint 2 to Checkpoint 3[edit]

Jump across the stream then proceed across the six alligators and two turtles. There are rocks to take breaks on periodically. At the turtle on the beach, hop up and cross to the rocks above. Then backtrack to climb up a pillar and cross back over the stream towards a wooden bridge leading up. Collect the blue bauble at the base of the bridge SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#7 and climb it to reach the next checkpoint.

Checkpoint 3 to Checkpoint 4[edit]

Before going up the ramp, turn left and carefully drop down to get to SAB 50 Bauble Icon.pngDigging Spot #4.

Climb up and around the left to get back to checkpoint.

This area features a long bridge where you will be ambushed by assassins as you cross it. There are four enemy spawns:

  1. A red assassin.
  2. A pair of white assassins.
  3. A red assassin.
  4. A pair of red assassins.

The assassins travel faster than you in a straight line. Dodging or strafing is recommended, but on the bridge there is no room so it is best to just cross as quickly as possible to avoid being knocked off. The SAB Barrel Icon.pngbarrel next to the bridge entrance has a SAB Cloud Icon.pngspeed boost which can make crossing the bridge easier.

Cross the bridge to collect four blue baubles SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#8-11 and continue forward to jump off the cliff on to the raft below. Be careful where you land, as falling in the water will cost a life. Activate the raft's checkpoint.

Checkpoint 4 to Checkpoint 5[edit]

The raft will begin flowing down the river while you get ambushed by assassins, who will jump on board. They are easily vanquished by simply side-stepping their first attack and hitting them three times with the stick. The timing is:

  1. Step.
  2. Hit twice
  3. Side-step
  4. Hit again.

The raft crashes into the next checkpoint.

Checkpoint 5 to Checkpoint 6[edit]

It is possible to jump over the trees blocking your path in this section if you do not have the SAB Candle Icon.pngCandle. If you do this, you will later get stuck and be forced to leave the instance.

Hop on a rock to the area on the right then take the Flower Launcher to the left side of the stream. Turn back towards the checkpoint to find the SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Room #1 (Associate of Secrets, World 2: After a wild ride).

Buy a SAB Key Icon.pngkey as you will need it to unlock a SAB Chest Icon.pnglocked chest in the next area.

With your SAB Key Icon.pngkey on hand, hop on the log, then on the rock, hit the alligator and take the Flower Launcher to get on to the pillar in the middle and collect a blue bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#12. Drop down from this pillar to land on a second Flower Launcher which will take you through the waterfall. Kill or evade the bear and grab the yellow bauble SAB 10 Bauble Icon.png#13 (the SAB Barrel Icon.pngbarrel in the cave entrance has a SAB Sun Icon.pngdamage boost that can help you kill it). Continue through the cave and climb up the rocks at the end.

Burn the Dry Pine Trees obstructing the path and kill another bear. Turn backwards, jump off the small cliff and pick up a blue bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#14. There will be yet another bear, but you can easily avoid him. Turn left and climb up the hill.

  • If you jump left from the hill, in the direction of the previous checkpoint, you will find a green bauble SAB 5 Bauble Icon.png#15, the SAB Chest Icon.pngLocked Chest #1 with a red bauble SAB 20 Bauble Icon.png#16 and a bear.
  • If you jump right, you will get on ledge with a toad. You can safely take down the toads in this area with SAB Mini Bomb Icon.pngMini Bombs. Burn the Dry Pine Tree on the adjacent ledge to reveal a Flower Launcher, but do not use it yet. Backtrack against the wall and get past the toad to get a blue bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#17. Now, go back to the revealed Flower Launcher and jump down onto the next checkpoint.

There is a dig spot at the end of the platform where you land after the second flower.

Checkpoint 6 to Checkpoint 7[edit]

Hop on the rocks and logs up the stream avoiding the jumping fish and rapids. When you get to the waterfall, jump into and climb up the rocks. A new checkpoint is just beyond it.

Checkpoint 7 to Checkpoint 8[edit]

Go straight on until you find a pair of hillbillies (note if going for the "Tiptoe" achievement, ignore them and head right towards the frogger water and logs - guide resumes below). There is a SAB Barrel Icon.pngbarrel with Food (Super Adventure Box).jpgfood next to them. A band of raccoons will rappel down and steal the baubles from the Still. You can follow them through the tree maze to find a Raccoon Kingpin, an optional mini-boss guarding a Stump.jpgStump. It has a lot of HP, a stomp attack and a ranged attack, so throwing bombs is the safest way of dealing with him. Killing it is not required to get all the baubles.

There are three blue baubles in this tree maze SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#18-20. Look for a bear guarding a Dry Pine Tree, in a corner of the maze, before the mini-boss.

Burn the Dry Pine Tree and bomb the ground next to the wall to reveal the SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Room #2 (Associate of Secrets, World 2: Surrounded by trees).

Plant bomb

Drop down below and watch out for the four bears down in this cave. A safe strategy to take them down is to throw SAB Mini Bomb Icon.pngMini Bombs from afar and dodge their fire AoEs as needed. Collect the four blue baubles in the cave SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#21-24 and return to the surface using the Bouncy Mushroom.

Go back to Checkpoint #7.

Walk forward a short distance and climb the slope on the left. Turn back toward the checkpoint, and jump to and climb the cliff face. When at the top, head to the waterfall and jump to the tiny ledge on the right. This ledge passes through the waterfall and a distance out the other side, so do not be afraid of overshooting the jump. If you end up on the ledge below it, it's okay. It continues after the wall so you just need to jump out through the waterfall and back in. Jump along the cliff outcroppings to the grassy ledge ahead on the right, and bomb the cliff wall on the right at the end of this ledge for SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Room #3 (Associate of Secrets, World 2: Ledge above river rapids). Pick up the green bauble SAB 5 Bauble Icon.png#25, turn right and head to the end of the ledge. Throw a bomb at the wall to your right to reveal SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Furniture shop #2 (Master of Decor, World 2: Between two ferns).

Return to Checkpoint #7.

Go straight to the area with the hillbillies and clear them out in order to reach the next hidden room safely. There is a cave entrance on the cliff face above the Still that serves as an entry point for the raccoons and, underneath it, a waterfall can be seen pouring out of the cliff face. It is possible to drop down to that waterfall where the cliff edge juts inward. Use the rock outcroppings to ascend these rapids to reach a Bouncy Mushroom and a yellow bauble SAB 10 Bauble Icon.png#26 behind the waterfall.

Throwing a bomb to the wall behind the waterfall reveals SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Room #4 (Associate of Secrets, World 2: Beneath the hillbillies). This cave will allow you to skip to the far shore of the upcoming river crossing section. It is also flooded with hillbillies and darkness.

It is recommended to use either the SAB Candle Icon.pngCandle or the SAB Torch Icon.pngTorch to go through the cave and to lit the torches on the walls to mark visited areas.

From the entrance, turn left whenever possible, or straight when not, to reach the end of the cave, but do not take the exit. If do, you will find a bear and some Dry Pine Trees at the far shore of the river crossing section.

Instead, take the red bauble near the cave exit SAB 20 Bauble Icon.png#27 and head back out through the entrance, turning right whenever possible. Use the Bouncy Mushrooms to climb up and out of that area. Hop down from the cliff and follow the Helping Hands to reach the river crossing section.

This section features moving wooden logs and stationary rocks and alligators. Drop down from the start, throw a bomb at the first waterfall to the right to open up SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Room #5 (Associate of Secrets, World 2: Where water crashes down at the wide river). Walk through the waterfall to get inside the hidden room and collect a red bauble SAB 20 Bauble Icon.png#28. Exit the hidden room.

Ride the first row of logs downstream to near the edge of the water stream, where there are a couple rocks and a geyser. Hop on to the rock, on to the geyser and then work your way to the right along the cliff side to collect a blue bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#29. Climb back up the cliff face to the right of the waterfalls. At the top there is a path with Bouncy Mushrooms and Flower Launchers that will propel you to a blue bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#30 and to the shop SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Room #6 (Associate of Secrets, World 2: Overlooking the wide river).

Shop #3 items[edit]

Interact with the wooden log next to the fireplace to learn the SAB Whistle Icon.pngWooden Whistle's Secret Song (1-2-3-1-2-3). This song reveals any nearby bombing surfaces, as long as they are not hidden by a rug or a waterfall. Play the song inside the shop to reveal a mark on the ground, in front of the fireplace. Bomb it to get into SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Room #7 (Associate of Secrets, World 2: Does the log have other secrets?). This dark room is filled with stuffed owls which can be destroyed for baubles. Exit the hidden room and the shop.

After leaving the shop, throw a bomb at the wall to your right to reveal SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Room #8 (Associate of Secrets, World 2: Left of a shop). It is a cave filled with toads. You can kill them safely with well-aimed SAB Mini Bomb Icon.pngMini Bombs. Drop down and, and following the right wall, you will get inside a room with a blue bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#31. Turn back and go straight, climb the cliffs at the end to find another room with more toads and a blue bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#32.

As you first entered this room, turn right and kill the toad in the corner. Now, play the SAB Whistle Icon.pngWooden Whistle's Secret Song (1-2-3-1-2-3) to reveal a bombing location. Throw a bomb to the wall to open SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Room #9 (Associate of Secrets, World 2: Inside a watery cave). Inside this secret room, there are more toads, a green bauble SAB 5 Bauble Icon.png#33 and an shopkeeper NPC. He warns that "The owls are not what they seem". Leave the cave

In front of you, hit the switch crystal with a ranged weapon to make several wooden platforms appear. You have to be quick and jump through all the platforms to reach the Glitch of this zone.

Cross the water stream. Upon arriving at the other side, you should have the shop SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Room #10 (Associate of Secrets, World 2: Across the wide river) to your left and a pair of hillbillies to your right. Do not follow either path, instead, follow the shore upstream, where a couple of Dry Pine Trees can be spotted. There is a blue bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#34 near those trees and SAB 50 Bauble Icon.pngDigging Spot #12 where the bear is. Get back and enter the shop.

Buy a SAB Key Icon.pngkey to unlock a SAB Chest Icon.pnglocked chest which will be found near the end of the zone. Exit the shop.

There are now two possible paths:

  1. Go behind the shop (jump up to a small ledge just to the right of it) to get around the hillbillies and move on to the next checkpoint (useful for the "Tiptoe" achievement).
  2. Follow the path with the hillbillies and be cautious of the area. The exploding barrels will cause damage if contacted. Use the SAB Whip Icon.pngWhip or SAB Mini Bomb Icon.pngMini Bombs to stay far enough back. It is possible to destroy the Still with a nearby exploding barrel. Finish the mobs and move on to the checkpoint.

Checkpoint 8 to Checkpoint 9[edit]

Burn the Dry Pine Trees and dispatch the bear.

  • To your right you will find several oozes which can be given to the Ooze Farmer.
  • To your left, there is a waterfall with logs that fall slowly.

Stand at the edge of the cliff where the two ferns are and drop down to the lowest ledge. Dig here for SAB 50 Bauble Icon.pngDigging Spot #13.

Head left and hit the Bouncy Mushroom to drop the seed underneath. Continue to the right side of the waterfall and take the portal to reach the top. Drop your SAB Key Icon.pngkey here to keep it safe for now. Drop down to the rocky edge below containing a blue bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#35.

Head to the top again and drop down to where a ledge with yellow grass meets the water (A). Take the first falling log and bomb the wall nearby (the bombable portion will have a different texture) and enter SAB Secret Icon.pngHidden Room #11 (Associate of Secrets, World 2: Behind a gigantic waterfall). The position of the bombable wall is shown on picture (B).

Head back to the top again and make sure to pick up your SAB Key Icon.pngkey. This time, jump through all the falling logs and stay on the last one. Ride it, facing the waterfall and staying on the right hand side. If you change your view so you can see behind the waterfall, you should see a cave appear appear inside the waterfall. If you are high enough with the log, you might be able to jump straight to the top of the cave, avoiding all the bears inside. If not, ride it all the way down and take the bottom entrance. The SAB Chest Icon.pngLocked Chest #2 with a purple bauble SAB 50 Bauble Icon.png#36 is located at the top of this cave. Leave the cave through the top exit to get directly to the next checkpoint.

Checkpoint 9 to Boss[edit]

Past the checkpoint, climb the ramp on the right and immediately turn back toward the checkpoint. Use the rock near the top of the ramp to jump to the Flower Launcher. It will launch you to an area with a blue bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#37 and the Ooze Farmer. Use the second Flower Launcher to cross to the top of the rock wall and follow it back to the main cliff face. To the left (facing the cliff), there is another set of wall of rocks with the final bauble SAB 1 Bauble Icon.png#38. Return to Checkpoint #9 and talk to Betty Bauble to verify if you have collected all the baubles. Use the two Flower Launchers ahead to get to the boss platform.

Boss[edit]

This is another cage match style boss fight. He shoots lasers in several patterns: 1.) directed at you 2.) in a four-point pattern around the plateau 3.) is a 360-degree arc and then a detonation effect. Stay near the fat edge of the plateau and only dodge roll if you think he's going to shoot. Don't get knocked off, or it will cost a life.

Before scaling the rocks in front of the largest waterfall, jump into the waterfall at ground level to access a hidden area full of geysers (see Hidden Area 2, above). In the back is a flat stretch of land with the dig spot. There is also an unhidden red bauble at the top of the cavern, requiring you to jump up the geysers.

After the first checkpoint gate cross the rapids to the waterfall. Climb the rock next to the waterfall and jump onto a ledge behind it. Follow the ledge along back towards the checkpoint gate to find a pool area.

After the first locked chest, continue along the ledges towards the back past the Bear. There is a tricky jump (dodge jump recommended) from the narrow ledge to the open platform. Jump down and then across the gap into the shaded area and dig in the back corner near the plant.

Immediately after the 8th checkpoint (guarded by the hillbillies) and after burning down the trees to open the path, find two plants on the ground to the left. Fall down to ledge below and dig.

  • The area where you must cross a river hopping on various logs is a tribute to Frogger.
  • The "The owls are not what they seem" is reference to the television show Twin Peaks.
  • The log in the Secret Shop #3 and the owls in the hidden room in the shop are also all references to Twin Peaks.
  • It is possible to complete the level without burning any trees, though the bears still attack the player on sight.
